It's an excellent game, almost as good as Deus Ex. Buy it if you don't have it already, and use the wesp5 unofficial patch.

Does unofficially patching a Steam game not screw it up somehow?

With this particular game? I doubt it, since it hasn't seen official support in years. Personally I just made a copy of the Bloodlines folder from my steam/steamapps/<account name>/common/ folder and played that with a v1.2 no CD crack + Wesp's patch.
It should be noted that saves can't be carried over between patches, else you get weird game breaking anomalies like all the pedestrians in Downtown becoming vampires.

Well, I'm about to start the game, and I figure it'd be best just to start it with a patch if everyone really seems to agree that it's for the best. I'll try making a backup, assuming Steam doesn't have any file system trickery.

The Activision games on Steam certainly don't.

Ohhhh think of the possibilities........:ebil:

Possibilities? Yeah, it's amusing sucking the blood of pedestrians and watching them instantly burst into flames for a little while, after that you'll just not want to play a broken game. Not being able to recharge your "mana" from all of the convenient mobile blood dispensaries fucking sucks.
I can't remember if the bug breaks the blood dolls, but regardless it'd be very annoying to trek back and forth to one of the night clubs needlessly. Then you mightn't have spent many (or any points), in Seduction prior and then you're fucked.
Having to rely solely on blood bags and Pisha's amulet (or whatever) would get old fast.
Then there's the fact that a maxed out Feed ability is one of the most effective attacks against enemy humans, especially considering that it's "free".

It did wonders against that hunter in the porn shop basement who was otherwise causing me some serious trouble.

I've seen many comments on how people had not played an RPG as fun as Fallout 3 since Vampire. I am playing FO3 now and is having a blast. I am thinking of picking up Vampire from Steam after FO3. Would I enjoy Vampire after Fallout 3? I guess the graphics will suck compare to FO3 but what about gameplay/story?

Gameplay is decent, story is very good indeed.
