Malleus, the thing about most Troika games is that you can pretty much enjoy them for their characters & story even if you don't care for the source material. VtM Bloodlines is actually one of their best games.
demagogue... for some reason I just really didn't care for the rest of the brujah. Jack was the only one that came off ok with me. Even funnier... is that Jack would usually give the reason for why I just didn't care for the others. Take Nines for example... one piece of dialogue that Jack had to say about him was that he grew up in the great depression so that his mind was hardwired that way. That aspect of Nines always annoyed the crap outta me. It's not like a didn't understand where he was coming from & I even sympathize with him... it's just that I couldn't stand how much he seemed to dwell on that. But I guess diverse characters like that should be a prime example of how good a game it is & how great a developer Troika really was.
Getting all nostalgic here, it looks like another round of Bloodlines for me.

Did anyone ever figure out how to get it working on Vista? That's my OS, and last I tried, it just wouldn't work. I pored over forums and Google to no avail.

Not sure. I thought I had it working on Vista on my last laptop. Did you right-click on the exe and change the compatibility to XP? It's also possible it's not the OS but something else if nothing is coming up on the forums.

Hey everyone! How you all doing? Got a question for you...
Has anyone been to the new level yet? What's it like?

Yeh gunny I have it working on Vista, pretty sure what dema said, use xp compatible mode and you also have to run steam as administrator to get it to work.

I'm playing the steam release just fine on Vista, didn't have to run it in admin mode or xp compatibility mode at all. Seems like it's something other than your OS, maybe.

Things shouldn't be too different on Vista than they are on 7/8, and I didn't have to go through any of that stuff. I downloaded it off Steam, installed the patch, then ran the game. I did the usual first time Steam bootup, then fires up no problem from that point on.
Where are you all installing your games to? Are you using Program Files, or does Steam have its own directory? And are you launching it from inside of Steam, or do you using a shortcut?

No my steam copy didnt work with vista, had to do the xp/admin thing to get it to work, maybe someother issue with hardware who knows?
Although this was with the older patch.

You guys are kinda making me seem dumber than usual and I want to defend myself here:

I was using a retail, boxed and unmodded/patched beyond any official patch. I don't even think it was available on Steam or GOG.com at the time. This was a few years ago when Vista was relevant. I just could not get this game to run. This was all on more than adequate hardware, 2 set-ups actually.
First was a Hyper-Threaded P4, 2gigs DDR RAM, and a ati HD 3850 512 MB on a current, updated Vista SP1 and 2. I tried XP Service Pack 2 and 3 with this set-up and it worked fine. Tried next my AMD 3800+ dual core, 3.5 gigs DDR2, and 2x nVidia BFG 7900+ OC (both in SLI and I tried it with a single card) on Vista SP2. Nothing on the Vista boxes.
I tried all of the go-to options such as making sure I ran it as an Admin and every single compatibility mode option (Win. '95 clear through XP SP3, iirc). Tried a couple Wesp patches, but ran into brick walls every time. Most forum posts I found basically said 'Give up, it ain't happenin').
I am just asking if this situation has changed since then. I am not into re-purchasing a digital ver., as I already spent $50 on this one the very day it released.
Thanks, guys, I appreciate the news/help!

Anyone else still playing this? Pretty awesome game, I've been digging it in every way (except for the sewer level) - love the characters and the story and the gameworld in general. Just got to Chinatown for the first time, so it kind of feels like I'm getting close to the end. It seems obvious where the story is going in regards to what's in the sarcophagus, but I'm just waiting to get thrown some type of curve ball. In any case, great game, best $5 I've spent in a while.
