I would not buy it at 25. Still too expensive for this mediocre game.

Played through this over the past few days. I'd heard that it wasn't very good but I found it cheap and I'm a huge stealth-fan so I thought what the hell.
The stealth is easily as good as that in DXHR, although the gameplay is mostly reminiscent of the last few levels of Manhunt. A sometimes splendid mix of stealth and action. Plenty of opportunity to use the environment against the enemy as well(electrified waterpuddles, oilslicks which can be shot to be ignited, exploding barrels and gas-barrels). The game looks great and the animations are very slick. Controls work great too, mouse+kb at least, didn't try gamepad because you really need the extra precision a mouse provides when the bullets start flying. Ammo is always scarce so headshots are a must. There's no leaning against walls though, which is an odd omission for a game like this, I felt like it should've been included.
I hear a lot of people complaining that the checkpoints are too far betwen but that's not really the problem. They're not that far between. The problem is rather the extreme linearity of all the missions. When you die and need to replay a certain section over and over it's doubly annoying when there's little room for experimenting and trying out new approaches.
During the first few missions I was amazed at how good the game was and I couldn't understand how it'd gotten such middling reviews, but as I reached the end of the game my initial excitement had died down, and I can't say I'd give this game more than a 7/10. The writing isn't very good. The only part that really got me engaged was a trilogy of missions in the middle of the game called The Third Man where you're tasked with infiltrating a prison and smugling a cyanide pill to a captured agent. Most of the other missions are stand-alone plots that are hard to care about, and the overall narrative is weakly told and doesn't make much sense at times.
And then there's the whole business with the woman on whom this game is based. If you don't know about this whole story then stop reading right now, go buy this game(it's only 5 bucks on Steam!) and play it if you like stealthgames because it's a good one, and the less you know about the backstory the more you are likely to enjoy it. Ok? Ok. I don't know WHAT the developers were thinking bringing Szabo's name up. This is a pure actiongame, total fantasy. Waaayyy more Inglorious Basterds than Shindlers List so why the fuck did the developers think it would be a good idea to shout about this game being based on the tragic tale of Violette Szabo? I'm guessing someone, perhaps the publisher, didn't think the game was good enough on it's own and needed a "hook" to sell. It's a shame because the game is good on it's own. Not great, but good. And as I was playing sexy Violette Summers stylishly offing Nazis behind enemy lines the knowledge of whom she was based on kept nagging in the back of my head making me feel like enjoying this was horribly inappropriate.

ALSO it's worth pointing out that in this game you can stab Nazis in the taint. Not kidding. That's one of the kill-moves.

Does this thread contain a shitstorm about how it's pointed out in the title that it's OMG YOU ARE PLAYING A GURL?
If not I would like to start one.

Never even got through the opening level of this one.

Because of not enjoying the game, or it being too difficult? Or a combination of the two?

it's because you play a girl amirite
Digital Nightfall on 20/2/2012 at 10:23
A combination of the two. I think I also found the controls unintuitive.
I think I was already in a frustrated mindset when I tried it, having just played Twin Sector. That one's excruciatingly un-fun.

Eh, the controls are pretty much the same as in every third person game ever made. The only thing slightly* out of the ordinary is the Switch View button which lets you decide which shoulder to view the camera over in aiming-mode.
But, if you didn't like it, whatever. To each their own and so on.
And yeah, Twin Sector was pretty bad.
* Alan Wake and APB also had this function
