It does. Fluid physics is still one of the relatively rare things in games - I can't remember many games that feature well-done fluids, and even fewer where fluids have some sort of impact on gameplay. (The only one that comes to my mind right now is PixelJunk Shooter on the PS3.)

Yakoob: I think there was quite a lot of stuff going on there, so I don't really agree with your appraisal; however, regardless of that, surely simple mechanics/variations on a theme and lots of repetition could describe the majority of all 2D platformers, 'indie' and otherwise? (not to mention a whole heap of other fine games.)
