Doors which can be unlocked or picked need two vhots near the visible keyholes, @h02Object on one side and @h03Object on the other side of the door. I believe that the StdDoor script uses these to determine if the key or lock pick is close enough to the keyhole to work.
Similarly, lockboxes have @h02Lock near their keyholes. Same thing for locking chests and money boxes I believe. Even mines, which can be picked, get a @h02 vhot for the script on them.
I did not intend to imply that all tool frobs need vhots. I believe the script on the object determines that need.

I think it's the Tool Reach property that does that. I have a vague memory of reading that LGS intended that the AI would actually reach for door handles, with the vhots being used as guides. I don't know if that person had read something or was just speculating.

Since the AIS are dependant on predefined motions, in order for that feature to work (if they ever decided to implement it) all of the door handles would have to be at the same height and the AI's hand would have to arrive at the same height as the door handle. I am happy with the AI being able to use their psychic abilities to open doors. ;)

There would be no point using vhots to guide the AIs' hands if they used a pre defined handle-grabbing motion. Think of how, in NewDark, an alerted AI always looks at its target.
