Yeah it's basically like visiting a friend at their house and watching them play. I'm guessing if the game is good, it leads to more sales more often than not. I don't underestimate a publisher's ability to shoot themselves in the foot these days though.

I generally can't stand videos of games where people talk over the gameplay. Only thing worse is people who slap random music over a video of a game that had perfectly good music already (e.g. far better than the garbage they added over it).
The only game videos I watch are casts of Starcraft 2 games which, while commentated, are completely different from a Let's Play of a singleplayer game.

Those don't interest me as much, as I don't play Brood War anymore. Can't stand the awful controls these days.
