Just downloaded Thief 3 and it will not run. I have a ATI Radeon 7500 video card. I Get the message that my card will not run Pixel Shader 1.1. I assume I need a new card and not just a new driver. Correct? Any recomendations?
thanks

I can't find anything. I don't know if any fix has ever been discovered. The few discussions I found all said, in the end, it was time to buy a new card.:(
Hopefully someone can post better news.

Yeah, you'll want to upgrade the card. It's a hardware thing, not software. :erg:

Thanks for the replys. I can pick up a radeon 9550 for fifty bucks. But, it may be time to bite the bullet on a new system. (I'm using a celeron 1.7 with 512) Been reading up on specs all night.

the fifty buck solution would work well I think, no need to do a whole system unless there are other newer games you are wanting to play

I really like the 50-60 buck solution. The system route would be costly for what I would want. I like just limping on for now with my system. I just picked up a radeon 9600 all in one card but it appears to be incompatible with my processor/motherboard. Can anyone suggest a good performing yet less demanding card?

Well if you don't have an AGP port then you probably WILL want a new system.
Gingerbread Man on 25/8/2007 at 05:41
These days you're going to want PCI-e.
I'd suggest you take some time pricing mobos, chipsets, and cards, Leafer. You can put together a pretty happening system for only a couple of hundred dollars more than a decent card, and it'll likely carry you through a while. If games are your thing, it'll be worth it in the end.

Yeah I didn't clarify. I meant that if your system is so freakin old that you don't even have an AGP slot, you'll want to get a new system, in which you'll want the PCI-Express

I have an AGP slot. I'm not sure if this necessarily means I can have PCI-Express. I'm running a Celeron processor and I been able to manage. I'm either going to make this work or plunge on a new system. I've just been having trouble getting Intel's utility for installing the new drivers to work. (I have the 845 chipset).
More and more I'm considering sacrificing my Christmas vacation and getting a machine. I'm going to try another week to get a fair graphics card in so I can play stuff like thief. It would be fun to play with something where every component is light years better. Just a little more debt into the home equity loan....
Again, thanks for the comments.
