...a different character's perspective-one that wasn't the player character

http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/858/etmback.jpgIt's good in theory, except for the masses who watch the film first and go "I WANT TO DO IDENTICAL THING IN THE GAME" leading to using the same scene twice and removing the purpose.

I think the problem with adapting almost any game is the fact that in a game, you have one protagonist, one main character, and very little other character development. Films need multiple characters to show relationships, whereas games can rely on the relationship between player and player character without needing any more character development.
Therefore, a good game to adapt would be one with multiple player characters, giving the chance to have meaningful multiple characters in the film without it feeling forced.
So we need an Eternal Darkness movie.

How about no.

You could even put the sanity effects in the film, and have it appear to change channel to Can't Cook Won't Cook halfway through.

Left 4 Dead:sly:
Zoey, Bill, Francis, Louis.
Awe come on, it'd be awesome... These characters are funny, and if a cast can pull off these characters in a film it'd be great. (I know, I know, zombie movies have been done to death. But... but this one would be awesome!)
Also, has anyone read the recent issue of GameInformer? (November 2009, Issue 199) - That very issue talks about the whole translation from game to movie thing. From what I read, it actually sounds promising now. There's plenty of game to movie ideas on the horizon at present, and one that's almost finished: Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. I've not played the game, so I'm really not a good judge (so you tell me) but it actually looks to be a promising movie. Guess we will see.
One thing Game Informer mentions as the cause behind game-based movies being shitty is that the movie industry doesn't understand the game industry, and the game industry doesn't understand the movie industry. (i.e., game publisher is quick to give a game the go ahead for film to a random film crew and lets hollywood basically rip it apart instead of collaborating with them on the project; and hollywood not playing the game or not knowing enough to really grasp the game concept.) Also, the fact that game companies typically are structured to where you have the same employee for 2 years and on for a project whereas a film you may quickly form a group of people for that one film. Which means, you don't have that same sort of continuity with a game company than with a hollywood production.*
Also, maybe I'm the only one, but I thought the Tomb Raider movies were awesome.:o At least they didn't drastically change the concept (such as, making the main character a male.)
*Disclaimer: These are not the exact words, I said it in my own way in regards to what I read from the magazine about the reason why game-to-movie films suck. (I could directly quote from the magazine but I don't feel like taking the time.)

Sounds like that article's probably got the right idea. There's also the fact that "video game movies" are considered inferior to a "real" film, so you get nobs like Uwe Boll directing. As the idea of making films from video games becomes more acceptable, more talented people will probably start attempting it, and coming up with decent stuff. I'm cautiously looking forward to what Sam Raimi does with Warcraft, simply because he's a good director.
However, if that Prince of Persia trailer is anything to go by, that film will just be a vaccuous CGI-padded snorefest.

Apart from the game - they did remake solaris, so I'd say it's possible.
Yeah, Brad Pitt's a shoe-in for the Writer. He's got the forehead wrinkling intellectual down pat.
Seriously? Why would you
want a remake? What more do you want out of the Zone, a wish?

Exactly, that's what the article was talking about - how there are now people who
aren't Uwe Boll doing video game films. Honestly I don't even know who that is, but I was just providing information.

Don't want a remake. I was suggesting that the remaking of Solaris might mean that a S.T.A.L.K.E.R film wasn't out of the question. I mean that the 'Stalker meme' in general might be viewed as an exploitable IP.
Holywood is bereft of originality after all.
Anyway, you were totally quoting out of context, so what are you doing?
Back on topic, anyone remember Another World?
(

I think it could easily be made into a nice animated film.

The topic of the thread is "Done Right." I'd love to hear you suggest how an unoriginal take on Stalker would do it justice.

No, I wasn't. When you talk about the continued possibility of a Stalker adaptation, and I quote you as talking about the continued possibility of a Stalker adaptation, that's a responsible use of your words.
