When I change the video resolution of Thief 2, the game accepts the new resolution (i.e. I don't get an error message saying it won't work), but then the resolution doesn't change. It seems to stay in 640X480 no matter what resolution I choose.
I've tried to google search this issue and haven't had any luck finding a solution.
I'm using a Nvidia GeForce FX 5500 with all current drivers and the current version of DirectX. Thanks in advance for any help.

Does your monitor accept higher settings?
Does your monitor have its own special drivers (such as Hitachi SuperScan monitors)?
Does your Vcard settings menu have a list of supported resolutions?
Are you setting the OPTIONS VIDEO menu in Thief to HARDWARE/SOFTWARE operation? If you are in Hardware, and it is not working try Software, and vise versa.

the menu resolution doesn't change, no matter what you do
you have to go ingame to see the change
if you've checked ingame, and it's the same, then..
is the config file write protected?

Good call. :thumb: They did not say ingame or menu screen. I should have thought of that.

Thanks for the responses.
My monitor is a Gateway FPD1810. There are drivers for it and they are updated. My video card supports many different resolutions and has had no problems with other games.
No "software" option is given to me, only "hardware".
I checked the config files and they can be written to (and the proper lines in the files change when I change the resolution).
I bought this game back in 2001 and it worked fine on my old P3. Back then I upgraded to a P4 specifically for this game and I've never been able to change the resolution. I recently got a new video card (the FX 5500) and thought I'd give it another try, but still no luck.

Is it a DUAL CORE P4? If so disable one with the CPU setting choices.
