I remember the viktrolas in the museum mission and was thinking about them.
First was the music ones. Not much to say about them, but they were awesome. Their music was cool but eerie...
Second was the stress one. It was in the curator's (sp?) office. I thought it was pretty creepy, but I had to think. The gaurds do mention that the curator is rather scary. Was there anything (readable, discussion) suggesting some kind of mental disorder?
Lastly, and most importantly, the ones on display. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure all of them were from Karras. I was wondering if they were all from the "Life of the Party" mission in T2 (I was too creeped out to listen to any of them in detail) Or did they get the recordings from the soulforge? That would explain them being so messed up...
Along with that; I wouldn't trust my memory, but in what I'm pretty sure was the west wing, there was a large room with an upper floor circling it. Between a bunch of booksheleves or something of the like, there was a particularly creepy viktrola. It was karras talking about something, and in the background there was something that sounded like a scream.
Maybe to keep the scare going from the Cradle, they added it in. But, it could have been my mind making things up as it was only intended to make the record sound ruined. Anyone know? I would check it out myself, but all of my saves are in a zip file somewhere and I don't really feel like finding them...
:p

M10vic1 is of course, the Horn of Quintus with keyboard accompaniment.

M10vic4 for the Curator's peace of mind. No mental illness, but Curator Milton did have to put up with at least one employee who was being talked to by a Sentient, and had to fire him for his insistence that this was true. The psychological technique heard is commonly used today in all seriousness.

None of them are from T2. M10vic2 sounds like a Nazi rally, with Karras as Hitler. The crowd sound is huge and outdoorsy, so it may have been meant for a rally at the City Square. He talks about his intended final act, wherby he greets the Builder in the new Paradise, then uses the necrotic mutox on himself for his final purification, then takes his place by the Builder's side. This is a canon-breaker if the crowd is hearing him describe this. In T2, no one knew this was the extent of what he intended.

M10vic3 has the music for
Trail of Blood (suggesting Pagans may be the vicitms, then?). That music could also be called "After the Massacre at Beck o' the Wills". There's the horrible scream, Karras says "Repent...", he says it again, there's sobbing, he says it again, there's another scream. Sounds like an inquisition.

Wow, that's a lot of information... thanks a lot!
That last one is kinda creepy. Why would they record something like that? I'll have to listen to it again sometime.
Thanks again!

I'd say it would be similar to recording a prisoner's confession.

that might be a 'fake' recording made by Karras for possible future generations (though, well, no future generations were intended :)). anyway, he was a psycho
and, by the way, we can't be 100% sure that "no one knew" about his plans
jtr7 on 18/3/2008 at 18:39
Certainly not thousands of people. There were those who knew of the weapon, but none knew the scope of the overall plan. Those who Karras divulged the most knowledge to were unaware. Other than the masked guards, and Brother Kelsus, all his followers were instructed to "abandon" Soulforge. Brother Kelsus received many instructions for the final days, and never knew what was coming. Garrett and Viktoria knew, sure. Know one else shows any sign or writes any journal or speaks any concern over Karras's genocidal plan.
In a way, it's like the Nazi's propaganda films, yes, in another it's like a suicide note, in yet another it's like a recording for any future generation of Builder's Children were his plans to succeed.
TheGrimSmile on 18/3/2008 at 23:10
But if his plan did succede, who would follow him?! A decent amount of people would be killed, and the survivors would be more than a little weary of joining some maniac who destroyed a bunch of rich people's gardens.
Maybe he didn't realize that his plans weren't really socialy acceptable?
jtr7 on 18/3/2008 at 23:48
Hm? If his plan had succeeded there would be no followers. He doesn't want human followers at that point. Only the Builder's Children.
If his plan had succeeded, all or most of the wood in all the structures, and all the plants and animals and people in and around The City would be gone, turned to red dust. All the food, clothing, paper products like books, and other building materials made from once-living plant and animal tissue--gone. The reaction would've followed the roots of the plants underground, consuming everything it touched, making more mutox as it went, until there was nothing it could touch, consume, and make more of itself with. If it spread to the forests (and it would) it would consume the entire forests unless a powerful wind/rain drove it back long enough.
At first, only what came down the River or washed ashore from the ocean could provide food and water and fuel for the Builder's Children. Sea-faring groups--pirates, travelers, and merchants--would come by and have mixed reactions, mostly horror, one can assume, especially at the impending bankruptcy.:p
Any Mechanists on Markham's Isle, and those at the Moiras' isle mansion, and whatever islands around would have to cope. Only the absolute worst beings and the most desperate and terrified would stay with Karras, who would kill them should they prove useless or merely not good enough (again, think Nazis).
The import business would grind to a halt. Economic disaster would be far-reaching. The Baron could no longer fund his war, nor would it be profitable in the traditional sense. The Underguild would likewise suffer financial disaster. The Queen would probably declare The City a forbidden land, assuming she's far enough away to avoid the apocalypse.
Remember, the mutox reaction keeps going until all organic material is consumed and converted into more mutox. Only after it has no more organic matter to touch does it stop reacting and settle as inert dust.
By the time Karras got around to setting the next plans in motion before taking his own life with the mutox, the first intrepid explorers into what was once The City (probably the sea-faring types, or the Baron) would set their eyes on the ruddy wastes, and see Angelwatch towering over it all, the view unhindered. And the lights would be on.
I'd still like to know more about Governor Horridge. Should he survive, he may be called upon, assuming he's physically and mentally capable.

guess it's time to put a "SPOILER!!!11" warning in the thread name and stop using tons of 'spoiler' tags in the posts :)
back to the viktrola topic, i can only assume that it was a 'fake' recording made by Karras for the possible survivors, as i said above. I don't have TDS currently installed, so i can't listen to the audio file again (and i played the game 3 years ago, so i can hardly remember the recording)

So we agree on the theory, then.:thumb:
