I was dossing about on TV Tropes, and in the Thief entry - Large ham there was this comment: "The voicework for the shopkeepers in Deadly Shadows is either good or just ok, but all of them are appropriate-sounding. Except for one. You probably know exactly which one." I didn't find any of the shopkeeper voices particularly hammy, and I was wondering if I missed something.
And, to expand the topic, were there any voices across any of the games that you found overly hammy/annoying/dread inducing?
I hated the 'join us...join us...join us NOW' thing because it meant noisy haunt killing would be in my future. :laff:

I imagine they were talking about the female shopkeeper who had the major crush on Garrett. Can't remember her name.

Not her. The one who was doing the bad Mae West impression.

Black Market Bertha's voice acting is worse than what we can hear in the original Resident Evil. Because the acting in RE is so bad that it's funny. There's nothing funny about how bad Bertha is and that's what makes it worse.
It's weird because the same woman did lots of other voices in the game too, and they're not nearly as bad. Maybe she has split personalities. Ones that can act and ones that can't.

Marla Madison's character was annoying. Black Market Bertha was embarrassing voicework. The Dahlia character was a beeyotch. Carmen Cantata was a pleasant ally, even if a little nosy. Most of the characters in TDS made me want to KO them. Frederick Juniper Rothchild III and his wife Penelope were really cringe-inducing, though meant to be to a degree. Lotus was done badly.

Lotus was bad, but I think Rothchild was fine. He was supposed to sound overly snobby and a jealous prick, so that we could feel the same way as poor people like Garrett feel towards the worthless penthouse nobility that have done nothing to achieve their level of wealth and standard of living.

Like I said.

Personally, all the voicework in TDS made me wanna scrape my fingernails on a chalkboard, and drown out the entire dialogue with William Hung's Greatest hits! Which doesn't even exist, unfortunately for my case... :(

I liked Rothchild too, although I was torn between liking that I couldn't get in (because you can't break into every property) and being frustrated that I couldn't hit him over the head.
Edit: Oooh, that reminds me, I also liked the noble in TDS as you entered Auldale, the one who suggested the pagans were just 'shabby'.
