I remember bumming a few bucks off my mom to hit up the arcade in the mall. Spent a lot of money on that Capcom Alien vs Predator beat-em-up, lemme tell ya.

It was all about Round Table Pizza for me as a kid, although I grew up in the 90's and missed the best of the arcade years.

The local pizza place where I grew up had Time Pilot for a few years, which meant lots and lots of lukewarm pizza. One of the grocery stores had Donkey Kong and Ms Pacman, the other had Time Pilot '84 and Track And Field. One of the diners we went to always seemed to have a few new games in the lobby. Mr. Do, Mr. Do's Castle, Rastan, Play-Choice 10. I think they had Defender or Stargate at one point. Another one had Demolition Derby and Zoo Keeper. Christ, there were videogames everywhere. Now, unless you have a retro-arcade or a Dave N Buster's, it's hard to find a videogame even in the standard places that should have them (i.e. arcades, Chuck-E-Cheese, etc).

Ooooh, this looks fun!
Though I'm already playing a few old-school retro-inspired platformers atm, so no more kicks-in-da-nuts for me right now. Tyvm.
Will definitively have to take a looksie at some point. Yaaarrr!

We had Laser-One, Malibu, The Silver Ball, and some wizard/castle-themed arcade close by. Games were at the grocery, Pizza places, and even bars. My step-dad was a pool hustler (seriously, he made tens of thousands a year on pool), so I spent a LOT of time being baby sat @ the Golden 8-Ball by the arcade machines. He'd just keep chucking me rolls of quarters and made the barmaid keep my Mountain Dew full...
I have played probably every single major arcade release, somewhere @ some time. Not to mention the more obscure ones. Rastan was the stuff, though. It was a fave of mine, and I REALLY liked Hard Drivin', Double Dragon co-op, Street Fighter II, and Temple of Doom. Operation: Wolf was pretty sweet, too. The uzi actually shook when you shot.

I can never remember the name of the Rastan-like game that came out before it, but IIRC it was Rygar. Reminds me of Volgarr as well.
