A couple of things I forgot to mention:

I'm ok with the rather fantastical timing and moving parts necessary for Walt to have poisoned Brock. It's still more believable than Gus grabbing the ricin and doing it. They've taken such liberties through-out the series, and have been judicious in doing so. The pay-off was worth it.

I'm of a couple of minds regarding Walt's haphazardness, especially as it compares to Gus. I don't think his willingness to expend innocents is rooted in some form of sociopathy beyond Gus's. Gus has had 20 years of experience at playing these games, and that gives him more control and assurance.

I also think there's a great mirror in two scenes - Gus losing his partner Max at the pool, and Walt in the desert. It's almost as though they are baptism scenes for the criminal mastermind they are to become. In each, they're facing their mortality, and that's when the light clicks for each. Gus played a much longer con in order to get his eventual revenge on Salamanca, but that's because he had to accumulate power before he could pull it off. Walt was in a much different place, and didn't have to learn patience, so he didn't.

Oh and in case any of you missed it - Zombie Gus's make-up was done by the Walking Dead crew. Nice cross promotion. There are already some great gifs out there.
