Here's an interesting thing. I was poking around GameSpy, as you do, when I came upon an old <a href="http://www.gamespy.com/legacy/interviews/spector_a.shtm">interview with Warren Spector</a>. The interviewer gets Warren on the subject of his influences, and in the long list that follows he says:

Wow. And I always thought Walton Simons = Warren Spector! But no, he actually exists. You learn something new every day ;)

So Spector used to play D&D with Bruce Sterling? He must have been really interested in RPGs.
He is also listed as playtester on GURPS Basic Set, 3. Ed.
