Perhaps this is not so important news in the West. You've got lots of more interesting stuff to talk about in mass-media, but for us, Eastern Europeans, this (Julia Tymoszenko becomes Ukrainian PM) is quite significant and full of... irony.
Russian authorities (or, if you prefer, courts) wanted to capture Tymoszenko. She was considered criminal in Russia.

Actually the Ukranian election has been a big deal here in edmonton. I'm still not sure what's going on though - Ukraine has a President AND a Prime Minister?

One is the head of state, the other wields the actual power. At least that's the way it seems to work in other places. UK has the monarch as head of state, and the PM as the power guy. US has the Pres fulfilling both roles.
