I <strike>hope</strike> might I catch hell for this, but they really should consider just going back to Orcs vs. Humans. The "warcraft universe" is just
bloated.
I agree.

Why should they? Orcs are no longer the series' main antagonists and, with Thrall as their leader, they have better things to do than fight humans.
That's the problem. It's gotten to the point where to make any sense of it, you need to read through pages and pages of background text.
Warcraft wasn't 'Demons and Humans'. They're straying from their roots.

It's far from being the friggin' Silmarillion.

"Straying from their roots"? Because they introduced two additional races? They just changed the dynamic and expanded upon the previous titles. It's still WarCraft.
Besides, as barbaric villains, Orcs are overused. Just look at all the LotR and Warhammer out there. I actually quite enjoyed what Blizzard did to the Orcs in WC3, making them more of noble anti-heroes (thanks to Thrall) as opposed to stock villains. It was refreshing to see something else than the typical "brutal Orcs VS heroic Humans" scenario for once.
My only regret about the Orcs in WCIII is that you don't get to fight the Undead with them, at least, not in the campaigns. Instead, they are pit against some overly stubborn humans and those incredibly annoying night elves.

It's (probably) more than five hours long?
Where do you draw a line between expansion pack/sequel and episodic content? Was Brood Wars episodic? Were all the Dawn of War expansions episodic? Is WoW episodic?
[Edit]Oh, and I forgot - I wonder how the nine hells do they want to synchronize the story of W4 with WoW.

I bet it's gonna take place waaaay after WoW.

Otherwise it`d cause too much issues.

Man I hope Blizzard goes out of business when this idiotic episodic attempt goes in the shitter like almost every other attempt that wasn't Valve's. Christ, look what happened to SiN Episodes! And that was a majour release on Steam, too. And nobody bought it.
Yeah I know bankrupcy isn't likely when Blizzard are grafted to Vivendi's ass, but hey.
I agree, Blizzard has a whole lot of failures in their past. I mean, every Warcraft game was a wild success, Starcraft was a wild success, World of Warcraft only makes a couple billion per year or something. Those retards don't know what the hell they're doing at all.
But less sarcastically speaking, while their way of milking the cash cow is a little ridiculous, I have no doubt that every game will still be as fun and as successful as all of their other games. It just kind of makes you wonder how they can look at themselves when they are so obviously exploiting the consumer, when they're already making the most money in the industry. They're basically the Microsoft of video games.

Still, I think what Digi might be playing at is that a gritty brawl between just orcs and humans can have a lot of appeal.
4 different teams can start to feel messy, and you lose much of that grudge-match chemistry between the factions, because they have less sense of direction, and more complicated politics. When you can focus a story and setting down to just two teams, you can have a lot more hatred and momentum going into it.
Games can still come out good with lots of factions (Command & Conquer 3 pulled off the Scrin somewhat efficiently, without ruining the chemistry between GDI and Nod) but the more you have, the more chances you just end up with something like Supreme Commander, where the chemistry and momentum gets smeared.
