Oh man. I liked WoW alot when I played it but this looks like something else.

The site has loads of information, and a fair few videos too.
If you ever played Warhammer as an RPG or Fantasy Battle you'll know all about the background but the crux seems to be that his is heavily leaning on the PvP and in fact Realm vs Realm.
All fantasy stuff is pretty similar so there are humans, elves, orcs etc. But this has the armies of Chaos and I've just read about the Marauder class - a disciple of Tzeentch and the mutation abilities, and The Chosen. The only worry is that Chaos is going to be absolutely flooded as the entire Chaos arm of WarHammer is by far the most interesting and what sets it apart from other fantasy settings. So far it seems only Tzeentch is planned, but if they add the others I'll be getting that Nurgle feeling...

If it is done well it could be amazing.
I would love it if it had the Chaos wastes properly implemented, so they shift around and walking back won't always return you to where you came from. Groups of people would have to take care not to get split up or they would have a hard time finding each other again.
Likewise it would be awesome if you could play a Chaos adept living amongst the Empire in secret, plotting your cunning schemes to help Chaos unnoticed to start with, until you unmasked and have to flee to the Chaos wastes.
Everyone wanting to be Chaos or Dark Elf naked chicks might be a problem though.

I presume the mechanics are nothing like the original role-playing game?

What, rolling dice? Probably not. :p
I'm sure they have completely revamped it to work in real time.

I didn't mean just the dice rolling but the unique and interesting aspects of the system: the career advancement, the skills system, the critical hit system and the rules for insanity
Imagine cutting of the limbs or heads of your foes, or becoming crippled yourself, in bloody, violent and unpredictable combat. Or the gradual decent into insanity as you struggle to bind demons to your will.

I don't know because I only played Fantasy Battle and so can't tell. Why don't you have a look and see? There are careers at least, and the Dark Elf mages risk damaging themselves by using chaos magic.
What looks interesting is that although there are 4 archetypes, generally speaking, they are all so different. Elf mage is not the same as human mage, at all. It's not just stats differences a la WoW, but the abilities and mechanics. It means you effectively have 24 different class types.
For me the realm vs realm, capturing keeps and the like, looks to be very interesting. Planetside style.

Damn you, damn you to hell. But you have to give us the low down. I'm especially interested in the combat vs WoW combat.
And if you decide you don't want in anymore you know where to send it. :thumb:

A friend of mine got into the beta, rather, a friend of his gave him his key.
Anyway, he said the pvp is great, classes are great and even leveling is more fun than wow. But its more like actiony in a way, despite the fact they've tried to draw out combat to make it last longer.
From all the screen shots and video I've seen, it looks far too much like wow. Granted, there are no big dumb floppy eared elves or crap like that, but I can't help but think that Climax might have made at least a more distinguished version. I get the Impression that EA might have kept Mythic on a tight leash with WAR.
