Just to make sure that everyone here is keeping up with what's going on in the Thief boards as well. Warren Spector has released a letter about the rumors of Deus Ex 2 and Thief 3 coming out on consoles first. Here's what Warren says.
<blockquote>
It never ceases to amaze me how quickly rumors spread in this business and how willing people are to accept rumor as fact.
Right now, there are rumors circulating on the net that Deus Ex 2 and Thief 3 will ship on console first, with PC "ports" coming later. That is simply not true. Let me assure you that we have no plans to release a console version of DX2 or T3 before a PC version or to compromise one version to accomodate the needs of any other version we might develop.
Both DX2 and T3 are a ways off -- making immersive simulations takes time! -- and official announcements regarding these projects will be made in the future. Until then, let me just say that the members of the DX2 and T3 teams, many of whom helped create the original Thief and Deus Ex, are determined to meet and surpass your justifiably high expectations.
Everyone in this studio is as committed to making games like Underworld, System Shock, Thief and Deus Ex as you are committed to playing them. The vehemence with which you've expressed your concern is ample evidence that you love these games as much as we do. All I ask is that you trust us now as you always have in the past. You won't be disappointed...

Fortunately, this neck of the woods seems to have been spared the general hysteria from the Thief forums. Warren and his team have never let us down yet.
(Not that I didn't feel any sympathy for the fear of the console crowd)
Still, I suppose we could spin an appropriately paranoid and thus Deus Ex-y thread out of the rumors, say: "Microsoft pressures PC game developers into X-box development as part of a long range plan to lock PC users into proprietary hardware under control of industry. Bill Gates unveils new X-box II under development said to utilize revolutionary Aquinas protocol to enable players to play games over the internet."
Like all good conspiracy theory, this is based in some truth... ;)

Well, I have posted in other places that as long as Warren Spector is in charge, the games will be good no matter what.
But, Warren, it is a little unfair to blame the fans for believing "rumor." This information was posted as a legitimate news report. The fault is with the irresponsible journalist, not with the public.
Also, if Eidos would be less tight-fisted about who is allowed to report news, it would be easier for news sites to check the legitimacy of such reports. We need look no further than Eidos PR for a very "Aquinas Protocol" attitude about the news.
So lets put the blame squarely where it belongs, OK? Irresponsible journalists and Eidos PR.
And Warren, you may not know who this is, but we've met. I'm on *your* side.

possession.
I can't say I was ever too concerned about the whole X-box controversy.
I think its unlikely that Warren Spector and team will produce an inferior product.

Is there something going on here? Is someone based off of someone else?
If I ever meet Warren Spector, he's going to have to say, "Just fire the arrogant son of a bitch.", for me.
