What you think, did Quake inspired Thief a bit? The castle of the damned has a very Thief vibe, the music is very Thief like. You have those circular windows with asymmetric mosaic, which reminds me of Thief very much.
Except the gameplay, the atmosphere is very Thief like. The nature sounds remind me of a pagan place:

It was, but not in quite the same way you're thinking. The guys who designed Theif's rendering engine looked to Quake for inspiration for what they wanted to achieve, visuals-wise (this was back when the game was going to be "Dark Camelot", a medieval shooter). Oddly, they went about it in a completely different way. Though that gets into discussions of cells and links and portals and poly planes that I barely understand, let alone am capable of explaining.

Interesting info :) . So they were inspired after all.
Psychomorph -> that's my favourite track too! It would fit Thief perfectly. Quake 1 is the last ID game I really liked...

Someone just linked to (
http://nothings.org/gamedev/thief_rendering.html) this article over in the editor's forum, it's from Sean Barrett who programmed the renderer for Thief. He was obviously influenced by Quake and in fact copied much of the tech from that engine:
Quote:
The engine was written somewhat contemporaneously with Quake (despite the game being released much later), and the basic appearance strongly resembles Quake. Many of its technologies were copied from or inspired by Quake, but in many cases the way it works is slightly or significantly different.

Wait, WHAT ?? Thief was originally a medieval FPS adventure game set in the arthurian context? Eidos should have taken the idea and made NuThief like that !

And before that it was a game about swordfighting with communist zombies.
