The first time I picked up a body part accidentally I very quickly threw it down again as soon as I realized what I'd just picked up, and exclaimed 'EEEEEEWWWW!!!!!' (okay; so I screeched like a little girl, so what!! :p ) so loudly that the cat sitting on my lap did an immediate burn-out, leaving bloody puncture wounds in my thighs. The squishy sound the body part made as it hit the ground was so loathsome to me (and gave me the heebie-jeebies) that I stood up and said 'EewwEewwEeww' for a minute while trying to shake off the feeling that I'd just been slimed. This was followed by an 'Ohshit!' when I tried to sneak past a prone zombie and discovered that it wasn't completely dead, just dormant. And THAT'S why I abhor the undead to this day. Perhaps if I'd had a different reaction, say one of amusement, I wouldn't be so very adverse to zombies, who knows? I just find them utterly repulsive and to me there was (and still is) absolutely no fun in trying to dodge them or trying to hack them to pieces, since Garrett's swordplay ability seems noticeably lacking (perhaps if he had some Lara-Croft-moves I wouldn't hate dealing with them so much).
I fared no better during my first experience with a haunt, unfortunately. I remember I definitely didn't like the sounds it was making, or the fact that it was somewhat transparent and knew immediately that here was something different and very dangerous. First I snuck up & tried to blackjack the thing ....... bad call! Then I tried everything else in my arsenal: to no avail. Not only did those nasties creep me out as badly as the undead, but I thought they were infinitely harder to kill. I didn't discover til later that I could use holy water or flash bombs (or, in the FMs, an over-head sword slash from behind) to get rid of the damned things.
I'd still rather face a roomful of spiders than either of the above. :p :p :p

Haha, my first time meeting a Haunt :P...I have never played Return to the Haunted Cathedral all the way through because of it :P
I opened the door on the right side of the building and ended up with about 5 haunts chasing me, I closed the door, went into the first doors you see in the cathedral (which I had previously picked open, peeked inside, and decided to leave it shut, seemed to easy to get to the alter), and ran inside, only to realize that this is the same room that I had opened before, but from a different door. I hid in the shadows in the path of a patrolling Haunt, and stared at the doors the haunts chasing me seemed to have the inability to run into. I then turned and found a haunt getting ready a hack at me with his sword - restart!

Edit, sorry for double post T_T

I always used the body parts to trigger the traps in bonehoard, sometimes even a zombie head worked but soome tiles on the floor needed a full zombie chest. :p
And yes I love the sound.

I never did Bonehoard, I hate zombies on the Thief games..well...except on Thief 3, they weren't scary at all. You should have seen my reaction when I
walked into the wrong crypt at the end of Tracing the Courier in Thief 2.
The first time I went through that level, I was too focused on the fact that zombies had awesome karate moves for some strange reason.
Freakin' ninja zombies...
I was really wary of the bodies the first time around, but I didn't think that they'd get up and murder you. I freaked out and wouldn't play undead missions for years. I recently fell in love with them though, and now I greatly prefer undead missions to regular ones.

I'm not a big fan of the undead, though I love the zombies' sounds.

I just ignored the first corpse and tried to walk over the real zombie. It rose up so quick that I jumped off my chair.
That's pretty much what happened with me as well. After that every time I heard one coming, I desperately looked for a way around it. As for the Bonehoard, I went through that mission with every nerve on edge.:p

Oh yeah. I played through Return to the Cathedran in mortal terror because I thought haunts were close to invincible. Come to think of it, I also played through the burrick tunnels in mortal terror. And Cragscleft's mines too. Oh yeah, and The Haunted Cathedral (where I was too afraid to switch on the lights because I thought the zombies might see me). The worst, however, came immediately after Garret gets the Eye and that cutscene. When I started the next mission and saw those...
things... I just said "No. Not
this." and switched off the computer. :cheeky: It is easy to become jaded, but the sheer terror Thief puts into people at first is no fiction.
I also thought zombies could reassemble themselves, so if I killed one, I made a point to gather the remains and scatter them as far as I could throw them. Still do this for that matter. :D
