Ha, back in the day I had FF7 and 8 on windows 98.
FF7's PC port was published by Eidos and came with a demo disc. That demo disc included Thief: The Dark Project!!!
We used a joystick and it worked surprisingly well except for that train sequence in FF8 (Disc 1). That was an absolute nightmare.
Beat 7 twice, but never did beat 8 despite multiple attempts and about a hundred hours. My young self spent so much time grinding and power leveling before bosses. I had no idea why I was struggling so much! :laff:
That said I haven't met a single fan of XIII. But clearly a quiet majority seems to like it judging by the sales.

What was bad about FFVIII again? I played it when I was about 16 and enjoyed it enough to have bought it on sale in Steam a little while back.
Did I do bad?
Imho, the characters were way more whiney than the other FFs, the story took some wtf plottwists
oh look we all grew up together but FORGOT, how silly of us! and the magic draw mechanic, while cool in principle, often led to tedious spell-farming.

Anachronox would have been so much better if not for the tedious combat.
This. I tried to give the game a chance but the combat just put me off too much

Can giant swords and the power of emo friendship save Eorzea from the forces of turned-based statistical mayhem?
Watch this movie and find out.
Don't you understand? We must fight for the future! For everyone! For the Souls of Vangaarnadael! Why can't you feel love the way humans do?

Running Down Linear Corridors: The Game.

Well, it had its good bits, namely some of the music. The rest didn't gel at all, and the combat was, as mentioned, badly designed grindy bollocks. Plus the story... in my opinion, the story was all sorts of what the fuckery; it was bad enough in FF7, but at least that game had some likeable characters. I struggle to think of anyone in FF8 I cared about, and the narrative wound around some incredibly bizarre things that I've since excised from my memory else I'd check them off here. It all culminated in the ??? denouement and a boss battle which was just... I don't know. It was bizarre, sans the cheesy ridiculousness of Sephiroth repeatedly annihilating the same planets during FF7's final battle.

In FF8's defense I did like the cast of characters back in the day. In my own defense, I was quite young and counted Pokemon among my gaming obsessions.
I didn't enjoy the characters as much as 7, but they do occupy a somewhat soft spot in my heart when I flip on nostalgia goggles. I did dress as Irving for Halloween '99 after all. i was upset everyone thought I was Humphrey Bogart! How dare adults not know what was hip and cool at the time!
Believe it or not, the middle school crowd of the day thought gun blades were badass! We also thought DBZ, Gundam Wing, and Tenchi Muyo were the bee's knees so we weren't exactly vanguards of taste...
That said I haven't attempted a play through in over a decade. Square did go off the deep end in terms kitchen sink bizarre ideas both in world building and gameplay, but they deserve some credit for taking risks that are unheard of today - unheard of because a lot of those risks resulted in a mess!

I at least remember being addicted to that god damned card game. But again, I was 16/17.

Triple Triad!
I probably had more fun playing that than the actual game.

The only thing good about FFXIII is that it's a small stepping stone towards them possibly releasing IX. The game that is, in my humble opinion, the best of the PS1 FF's, and the last good FF made.

FFX was pretty damn good. I really enjoyed that. Rest after that though. Meh.
