Nice, but lacking in regards of voice commentary. Also, either turn up the gamma or don't mess around for too long in totally dark rooms. :)
I realize that the voice commentary would just have been some manic giggling in the background most of the time, but it would have been nice to hear a "I am now going to play this mission like an invisible shadow of the night!" at the start or something; and perhaps a line when you started to try to save the maiden in distress.

I stand by my statement that some of the people here are retarded douchenozzles for immediately condemning the LP just because Khad's 'playing it wrong'.

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a297/RetsnimdeCorp/Smilies/emot-colbert.gifAt the end of the day though I can't fault you for the opinion as he's pretty terrible at it, and I would be fairly nonplussed if someone was playing through one of my favourite games and refusing to play it the way it was intended to be played.
That said, Khad's incompetence is one of the big draws for his LPs, because it allows us to watch someone get better at a game in real-time. We also stay because he is (despite his bumbling) going to play through until the bitter end. Those of you saying that such-and-such level is going to break him I can only refer to his (
http://lparchive.org/LetsPlay/TreasureMaster/) Treasure Master LP. The man is a machine, and cannot be stopped no matter how poor his performance. Which, ultimately, is
the reason to watch them. Against all odds and with minimal help from the thread, he beats the game.
tl;dr Haters gonna hate and I'm a loser for spending this much time thinking about it.
I desperately want to see this as a full-fledged Let's Play, to the point where I am seriously considering buying you an account on SA. All you need is good commentary and it will be a fantastic counterpoint to Khad's run-through.
kabatta on 20/6/2010 at 18:25
Yup...something like that. The demos thrives on such things for unapparent reasons.
Also, I doubt people have anything against Khad's horrible game-play approach, but of his linguistic attire. And speaking of linguistic attire...guess you need some reminder there, Edminster.

I believe that Khad "playing it wrong" is the very reason why many people (including myself) find following the LP amusing at all xD I'm quite sure TDS won't be that enjoyable anymore, as Khad is likely to have some thiefy experience by then, no matter if he wants to or not.

Yep.
And he'll stay a kacknoob for as long as he keeps blaming the game with statements like: "fuck this game" / "I hate this game" / "this game's designer is doing some interestingly detailfully described sexual activity with the player's backside" instead of admitting that it might be, even just partially, his own fault that he's failing sometimes.
You know, falling from that first rope in Bonehoard and then keeping going at 1 health is indeed an admirable trooper mentality. But then falling down from more stuff or standing like an idiot on obvious pressure plates and dieing all the time, and blaming the game for all these reloads? Or not saving after having done something difficult, then immediately afterwards falling down somewhere with that 1 health and dieing and having to redo the difficult things - how exactly is that the game's fault again?
It was in one of the earlier missions that he kept dieing all the time some more, because he was too stupid to drink his healing potion at some point. How exactly was that the game's fault again?
:p
Anyway, you know:
variety. There are more swear words than just "fuck". "Butterfinger fucknut" (or whatever it was) - now
that was something more creative, and a good start. He needs to use more of these instead of the boring fourletterword twice per sentence. English is his native language: He must know or be able to make up more swear words than just "fuck".
kabatta on 21/6/2010 at 04:54
Indeed. Creative swearing might be a great improvement. You can borrow my following improvisations: may a family of burricks nest in the nearby sewer; I'm gonna put itching powder in your knickers, you chain mail ass; oh, join yourself in that crack party you keep having; no it's your head you hear scurrying in the empty halls of your brain; how about you come take a closer look of my club; a sword I'm carrying? I'll give you a sword alright! right over the face; (to the mage "is this a thief i see before me?") no, it's your momma, now mind your own busyness. The possibilities are unlimited. :ebil:

It's not that he plays it "wrong". As you said, the fact that he's a fuck-up is what makes the LP so enjoyable. Hell, if Lytha recorded a perfect stealth no-damage all-pickpocket run I wouldn't watch it because well, that's not very fun to watch and I can do it myself.
The problem people here have with Khad(aside from the swearing apparently, but this is ThiefGen - the fairy forest of TTLG-land, so people here are mostly detached from reality) is that he blames the game for his own mistakes. He dies five times to guards, but still tries to assault them directly. When confronted with maze-like ledges of Bonehoard instead of doing the logical thing and calmly exploring all possible pathways, he's just running around blindly flailing his arms hoping he'll just somehow stumble into the objective sooner or later. He claims the map is "useless", then spends fifteen minutes trying to find the way out of Bafford's despite the fact that both exits are marked on the map. And all that in the thick ADD sauce - missing blatant pathways, loot, clues, gameplay mechanics, and even misinterpreting what he reads, it's all there. It's even more evident if you watch the Cryostasis LP. As long as he's just being bad at the game it's hilarious, but the moment he starts talking about what he thinks about gaming the spell is gone and well, it's just a consoletard spewing out ignorant bullshit.
And don't be so sure about him finishing the game(much less the entire series). Treasure Hunter was what, half an hour long if you don't count the five hundred seventy one deaths? Thief, especially Gold, is long. Very long.

Lytha doesn't do "perfect stealth", never did. :p
I found Tarvis' zero damage playthrough of Thief Gold very entertaining to watch though. Mostly because it was just scary to see that he was running through the missions just like I would've done when I was playing Thief all the time. (And perhaps empowered with the dark magicks of quicksaving and repeatedly doing it until it's just perfect for the upload. ;) )

Oh good. I was concerned that people
were complaining about how he attacks guards when it is suicidally idiotic, impulsively sprints everywhere without getting his bearings, never uses the map, ignores everything that's not shiny, and last (but by no means least!) has the mindset of someone who blames everything but himself.
