Khad, since the game is pretty dark overall and you insist on playing THC with the power off, I'd suggest you to use the brightness slider to get things a bit brighter. Most of the time in the videos when you're navigating dark areas, only the hardcore fans that know the levels inside out can tell what you're doing and where.
I'm not even sure that adjusting the brightness in Thief has any effect on the video though. Thief is always problematic with that sort of stuff.
