Really, I absolutely hate to admit this but by now he might be better at this game than me :'(

Better at "beating" it or playing the role of Garrett?
Vernon on 6/9/2010 at 04:55
Depends what you want out of the game doesn't it?
You could be a basement-dwelling sperg who gets off on roleplaying some Cool Dude fictional character from alternate history. Whenever someone doesn't revere that fictional character in the same way as you, you can come and have histrionics about it in a thread.
Or, you could just play the game however you like whilst providing entertainment to a large audience.
I don't think there's a monopoly on Garrett's role nor is it necessary to live in the past whining and bitching about the same old shit all the time. Yeah, you like Thief and have a huge hard-on for Garrett. We get it. Your remind us of this fact incessantly

Okey doke.:thumb:
Actually...I was hoping you could answer the question, since it is, as you well know, all subjective. And it's the fiction, the storytelling, the rules, the world ambience and immersion, the aline, surreal, intelligence, arts and literature, Monty Python, Lovecraft, and the hundreds of disparate things amalgamated together into a singular experience, and--AND--the effort put into all of it I appreciate, not your juvenile homoeroticism and other personal insecurities you're projecting on me, dumbass. You're defending a guy who blames the game for problems he himself creates, against someone who hasn't said anything you claim I have. Good job. Was that displaced anger cathartic?
Saying the game doesn't provide a detailed map, when clicking the big green arrow will bring up the detailed map, is not "truth". After being frequently seen and heard after being told that one must learn to remain unseen and unheard as pillars of Thief gameplay, the consequences are not the game's fault. I'm not saying a damned thing about what is believed to be a preferred gameplay style of dying as much as possible for avoidable reasons and doing the opposite the game suggests or requires. I'm questioning the part where the game is blamed for the consequences of the player ignoring what the game is telling the player. You hate me for reasons you made up. You have essentially created offensive crap in my name and the stench is such you hate me for inspiring you. You have mindlessly scapegoated me for what many others in this thread have done, which I have not.
Remember what you told me today, hypocrite, the next time you feel like going off on someone for having a different idea of how things should be in a Thief game, even if you are right:

But it's more fun when he does it like this. Going to the cathedral with two hit points and one fire arrow builds tension.

I'd rather he walked INTO the cathedral with two hitpoints and nothing but a fire arrow. That would be intensive. Lol.

Its strange to see someone play thief 1 and say the game is old and clunky. Sigh. And yes it is... I mean, it will probably be one of the best games i ever played, in immersion, atmosphere, sound, exploration, ( especially the sound ) but yeah, khad is right, the game is old. But i disagree when he says that if it were released nowadays it wouldnt be that special... it would be!! I can just imagine missions like the mansion The Sword or the Lost City with todays hardware, even more hard, even more scary. The first games almost approached something like virtual reality, they pushed to the limits, that is what thief has to teach to all game developers, that sometimes a bit of simulation and fantasy makes for a good gameplay mechanic. And you cant just have that in todays pc or console generation. I not saying todays games are bad, they are not, most just play safe, i loved mirrors edge and penumbra, they somewhat tried to do the same.
