The final Missions of Thief: The Dark Project are obviously the ultimate throwback to the classic rpgs that directly influenced the title, most notably Ultima and Might and Magic. lol As far as differences in gameplay, it depends on how you played through the first part of the game. Based on a lot of the videos I've seen over the years, most are played in a very action oriented fashion. Anyways, for a classic rpg fan, such as myself, I was and still am spellbound by the majesty that is Dark. :ebil:

I'm not sure how the gameplay is radically different from the rest of the game -
you can sneak past the tree -even ghost it if you're so inclined. The only real problem area with a stealth-based approach would be the lava orb area and the frogs. You have to either RUN or go combat.
Am I forgetting something?
edit: spoilers hidden now. please do the same below

The spider area is really hard to ghost through. There's at least one chaos spider that always gets suspicious.
And there's always the problem with the portal. Firing a gas arrow at the earth ward usually gets one of the portal guards knocked out and firing a fire arrow at the water ward... well not exactly ghosting is it?

Gameplay is different. Let's see... there's a new enemy type that acts very much like a normal human except you can't pick up it's corpse if you kill it or knock it out. And there are small beasts that self destruct and make massiva amounts of damage. Are those a bad thing? Varying challenge and unexpected changes. Adapt and overcome.

It depends on what restrictions you impose upon yourself. It's mostly more linear, and ghosting is entirely a player invention. Craymen cannot be picked up, so that aspect is not new in Escape! The icy slope is the one thing that has no precedent, as the player should be fairly used to firing elemental crystals at targets that require them already (lighting torches in the Bonehoard and Keeper Grotto). It's different for combining aspects found in previous missions, never seen all together. The rest is psychological, subjective, and how the design of everything impacts the player. If you attack Bugbeasts then you will create new problems, but if you don't, you only have to treat them like any patrolling AI. It's designed to seem alien, and yet the game has been training you in a range of contexts all along for it.

Whatever happened to keeping spoilers between spoiler tags, people? :tsktsk:

When I made a similar observation I was sworn at and accused of of paranoia, so expect people to continue posting unhidden spoilers.

That has nothing to do with this thread and everything with you;)
Seriously, though. Talk about the last level(s) of the game should remain spoilered, especially since it's about watching a
newbie. Please spoilertag the relevant parts of your posts, people

I actually doubt Khad is still reading this thread but indeed, you can never be too careful.
