Yes, it doesn't seem to be possible to mantle out of the water.
Did you try using the stairs instead?
PS: Why does no one use [ spoil ] (inline spoiler) instead of [ spoiler ] (line-of-its-own spoiler)?
It makes the posts look much nicer!

Well, I have to say that this is a fantastic mission, just a little frustrating, expecially when you have to
orientate the "sun-masks".Other than that it's absolutely amazing. Kudos to the author!:thumb: :thumb:

hate to say it...playing on expert and I need three more masks...I have been able to [SPOILER]light my torch, have found some doors, have solved the glyph puzze, the cube puzzle[/SPOILER]... I am probably missing something obvious. this is a fantastic mission. warms and old taffer's heart after all these years. who knew that this stuff was possible.
any hints for some "hard to find" masks?:weird:

[SPOILER]I liked the Egyptian theme, and the puzzles. The setting the mirrors up was fun, the 'follow the ceiling glyphs' was a little difficult because the hidden path glyphs were hard to tell from the normal ones. The crackling paint at the end, the falling debris and the rising water lent themselves to a really panicked-must-escape feeling at the end. I only wish the motorboat-water elementals could be killed, or temporarily disabled. They did make a cool sound, though. [/SPOILER]

Some hard to find masks were located near (
http://www.darklurker.com/temppix/stairs.jpg) these stairs[SPOILER]Go up the stairs, to the blank looking hallway. Go to the south wall, and walk through it. You should see a ladder. Go up the ladder. If you explore this area you will find that it leads to the big open area with the archaeologist. Walk on the edging to the opening on the other side of the room for one mask. After you get that mask, then look across to the other doorway. There is also a lever/switch/thingie along the wall that opens a concealed area that holds another mask (I think, it led somewhere important, anyway !)[/SPOILER]

That's all correct. Also, this secret area leads to one of the thingies you attach the masks to, so you have to get in there sooner or later.
