Winter Ember looks really good! Sort of like a Thief Deadly Shadows done right :D

I'm now a good 40+ hours in since release day, on the last character's journey and have pretty much uncovered all the fog of war on the world map. Not sure whether I'd immediately try a 2nd playthrough, given the post-release roadmap with new modes and (
https://cogconnected.com/2022/04/weird-west-patch-1-02-sneak-peek-unveils-upcoming-content/) what they've already announced just for the next patch. But some of the decisions you get to make (and which visibly influence the world) may make me prone to try.

I'm also in disagreement with samIamsad, who raised an issue where they thought that action points that replenish over time are overpowered. To me, the whole point of the game is to give you lots of overpowered toys, then let you go wild with them; indeed, the game's insistence that you use quicksave to experiment indicates that they're not really interested in restricting the player.
That's Arkane philosophy in general. Their games are mostly genuine "power fantasies" to a degree Thief or Shock2 certainly never were -- and it's apparent that this is what Colantonio likes also. One of the reasons they didn't simply do a Western scenario, but infused it with the occult, dark arts and magic apparently was so that you could code in all those special powers empowering the player. I'm sometimes mixed about this. I sometimes enjoy that kind of thing -- but even in Prey, for all the crazy fun you can have later on upon unlocking all those powers, the most intense memories I have of the game were from the early stages of it. Where you didn't yet have an abundance of ressources, and still had to be creative to survive/get past enemies clearly above your tier at that point in the game.
I've just finished the 4th character, and with him I had picked the "sentry silencer" ability again, something I hadn't done since playing the bounty hunter. It's still somewhat OP if you ask me (perhaps they should rise the cost beyond the 5 auto-regenerating AP), but I still enjoyed using it this time, as I quicksaved less often to compensate for it.

As in a lot of games with some degree of fire propagation, it's a wonderful example of this; where amulets that grant you a chance to set targets on fire when you attack them become a massive liability when hunting bison in the long grass of the plains.
I totally dig that just one tiny fire can spread all over the map pretty quickly, provided the weather and ground is right. Yesterday night or so I had a random encounter on the grassy plains, enemies completely outnumbering me were throwing explosive/fire stuff all over the place. Was really fun and intense to both dodge them as well as trying to avoid the ever increasing flames. At one point I was THIS close to getting encircled both by the flames as well as the remaining enemies not taken down yet -- but a jump saved me from catching fire (and losing my few remaing points of HP) myself. :D
So little talk about this game, and so little users apparently playing it, and I thought this place was Imm Sim Central.
PS: Re:
Winter Ember, reviews so far seem rather negative, sadly. Maybe Weird West will see a Thief inspired story DLC, in which you get to play another character called Garrett whose abilities are all about stealthing and staying undetected (most character abilities in Weird West are aggressive ones imo), who knows. :D

Wish the game had [...] locked the view behind the character.
I finally got my wish. The new patch lets you lock the view behind the player when aiming now, and also has an option to prevent zooming when aiming. It definitely plays better now. Picked up my progress halfway through the 4th story. Maybe I'll finish it this weekend. Maybe!

Ok I finally finished Weird West.
I guess my final verdict is: yeah, it's pretty good! It allows for a lot of player agency, the story and characters are quite engaging, stealth-gameplay is kinda barebones but fun, and since the latest patch the combat gameplay is fun too! 7/10

Ok so mod support is (
https://twitter.com/devolverdigital/status/1590535151972646918) coming to Weird West later this month AND the rumor mill has it that this first person mod that one of the devs was teasing a while back will be one of the first mods released!

This will render it's IMMSIM STATUS: IRREFUTABLE!

Mod support is out today on PC, and as a PS5 player, I'm KINDA JELLY. This breakdown of what it took to get the first person mod functional is very interesting.

The game's also -50% in the current Steam sale. If anyone ends up playing the first person mod I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. I feel like I might end up picking this up on PC sometime next year for a replay if the FP mod really is as big of a gamechanger as it looks.

Finally getting around to playing this, and it's damn good! I'm genuinely impressed with how focused they were on making the world interactive; It feels like if you want to do something the game will let you do it. I tried the first person mod, but it's kinda janky and compromised (as you'd expect) and I think it plays better in third person. Feels a bit like playing something like Desperados, but without having to try and manage a squad in real time. Anyway, it's great, and apparently WolfEye are working on a Sci-Fi FPS next, which I'm really looking forward to.

I can't comment much on story stuff because I've barely touched it, but my god the design of this game is insane. Ostensibly, it's a twin stick shooter. And then they threw like, every emergent system from every game I've ever played on top of it. It has maps and an overworld like Fallout. It has Dishonored's stealth, Dark Messiah's kick, FEAR's slo-mo, Far Cry 2's out of control fires, hiding in underbrush like Sir You Are Being Hunted, etc. You can do things like kill everyone in a town and come back later and monsters or bandits or wild life or whatever have taken it over. You can wipe everyone out on a map and grave robbers might show up later to loot the bodies. You can rob stores and they'll go out of business. The number of systems on top of systems that they've put in this seems nuts to me, especially for a small studio who seemingly cranked this out fairly quickly. I'm surprised this game hasn't garnered more discussion here.

Thanks for the feedback on the first person mod.
Yeah this was a crazy ambitious game (that pretty much worked as it should once it was all patched up) and I do wanna replay it at some point.
