On a related note, what does it look like if you replace character speech with gunfire or helicopter noises? Is the system able to convince the player that the NPC is speaking sound effects?
Would a deaf person realize that the NPC is talking like a helicopter?
If, of course, the gameplay demanded such a situation.

Huh?? I'll quote from PC Gamer:
"As characters speak, the graphics engine converts their voices into the seven major phonemes (shapes the human mouth takes to process sounds.)"

That hardly answers the question.

Bloodnet was an adventure/roleplaying game with a mix of cyberpunk and vampirism. I thought it was a very good story. You walked the streets and met a lot of foulsmelling scum. You had to jack into the net to find information etc. But you were also bitten by a vampire. Because of an implant you had you could still fight of the vampirism for a while. You got bloodlust and after a while you had to drink some blood. But you lost humanity that way. You had to solve the game before you became a vampire.
Anyone remember this. It's the only good cyberpunkgame I can think of.Indeed!
One of the best plots ever!
Ofcourse, MicroProse could have made it allot better, if they only improoved the battles and give some speach freedom option.
But still, I REALLY love this game, and I'm about to open a really big fan site for it, I've allready been working on it for quite a while now, I'll post the link when its done.
As for other Cyber-Punk games, maybe "Rise of the Dragon" by Dynamix, Neuromancer, and somewhat "Darklands" I think.
Bloodnet is the best I incountered so far.

that'd be cool, though, if writing this went back in time and got posted on the thread before it was dead and i ruined it all and all the eidos employees wondered "how the hell did he know that?"...that'd be cool.
