What are some good Playstation 2 games? (preferably action, but any genre is fine) - by io organic industrialism

ups yes Psychonauts! i keep forgetting this one. lovely.
and I remember jumping around on platforms quite a lot in Soul Reaver. Probably because I played it... but it's not really a good game. I'd prefer Shadowman any day. Which isn't a platformer at all, though. But has a similar layout in terms of otherworldly undead 3rd person adventuring.

Fuck that game was amazing. I think you really need to have an appreciation for the artistic value of games to enjoy it. If you don't or you're in the mood for some action then it's probably the worst game to play, but I personally loved every second of it. Even just riding around the environment and shooting down birds was mindblowing for me.
Spot on. I only got annoyed by the camera. Not because it's shakey during battle as most critics point out (because it's not), but while riding about it's set way too high. Basically with a 3rd person cam, one should see the horizon by default. But in SOTC it unnecessarily took out some environment immersion. Too top down view, forcing to fiddle with the viewing schtick all the time. Why no Zelda cam position???

Call me crazy, but I don't think many people would utter the words 'Soul Reaver' and 'platformer' in one breath.

And this invalidates the stupidity of your post how, exactly?
I'm trying to get through your thick skull that when several products display an array of
common traits this usually means they belong to the same
genre. And I'm calling this genre "3D platformer". I do realize that the name is not very good since there are platformers in 3D which do not fall into the category I'm talking about, but it's still much better than "action-adventure" which means
absolutely fucking nothing. If you can think of a better name, I'm open to suggestions.
And since Okami does have these traits, it also belongs to this genre, along with other titles I've mentioned. And no, the fact that it
looks painted, or that the obligatory special powers force you to
draw a circle when you use them does not make the game any different. Half Life 2 is set in dystopian future and has plasma rifles while Hexen is set in dark fantasy land and has magic staffs and yet you have no qualms accepting both as FPS because
the general game mechanics are the same. And
the general game mechanics of Okami and Zelda and Ratchet and Clank and even the goddamn Shadowman are also the same: Full 3D, you kill baddies, you kill bosses, you collect stuff, you gain special powers, you use these powers in and out of combat, well Shadowman didn't have the optional-obligatory miniquests.

My dear man, it's really quite simple.
We're talking about platformers here. Comprendez-vous? Parlez-vous anglais? Non?
Let me simplify this so you can understand:
Take a game, regardless of it being 2D or 3D or extruded into so many dimensions that it manages to wind up back into your ass, that contains a series of raised and/or suspended platforms.
Hang on, we're not done yet. I know this is difficult, but do try to wrap your head around this:
If this game contains said 'platforms', and its core gameplay revolves around negotiating said platforms via whatever acrobatic feats to get to the end of the level/goal required, it is called a platformer.
Now here's a doozy for you: Okami is not a platformer because, while it has platforms, jumping around them IS NOT THE CORE GAME MECHANIC.
It's utterly post-genre, which means that you can't fucking pigeonhole the game because it does not conform itself to any one particular genre. It has a whole bunch of stuff from a whole bunch of games from different genres, so calling it purely an 'RPG' because it has XP-based stats, or purely an 'action' game because it has combat is UTTERLY FUCKING MEANINGLESS. You can't meaningfully prioritise one bit over the other.
Which means, you utter twit, that you and your blinkered view of games have been completely incapable of seeing the entire picture.
I shall now write a loose haiku in praise of you and yours:
the rain, it does not
wash away the yellow stains
of shit-tinted glasses.

Haha don't bother, Sulphy, he has the listening skills of a deaf dog with ADD.

Yeah, well, it's the utter lack of common sense that gets to me. At least it wasn't all wasted effort; I did get to do a haiku!

I'll try to recommend some of the more obscure games, seeing as the popular ones are already covered, mostly.
The three Ace Combat games(4, 5 and zero) are all awesome, and nowhere near being simulators if this sort of stuff deters you. Zero is probably the best of the bunch.
The Capcom Classics Collection(Vol.2 specifically) and the Sega Genesis Collection have many good games in them(Strider is pretty much the coolest game ever).
If you do feel like checking out 3D action games, the best ones are probably the Onimusha series(specifically 2 and 3- avoid the fourth like the plague), God Hand and Shinobi. Yakuza is a very cool game plot-wise, but the game itself can get very, very repetetive.
If you're into JRPG'S, the best ones are Digital Devil Saga(1 and 2 are two halves of the same game), Shin Megami Tensei 3, Tales of the Abyss, Shadow hearts: Covenant and From the New World, Valkyrie Profile 2 and Final Fantasy 12.
3D Platformers: Besides the obvious J&D, R&C, Psychonauts and Okami(j/k) there's also Maximo vs. Army of Zin and the Sly Cooper trilogy.
Most of these are pretty rare, so good luck if you're planning on actually getting them:p
Oh, and check out Viewtiful Joe and Alien Hominid if you have'nt already.

What? That I can enjoy the game's extremely scenic and mindblowingly atmospheric environment?
Yes. A lot of people I know don't really care about stuff like that. That's all I am saying.
