I'm considering buying a used copy of Dreamfall for the PC for $8. Steam is selling it for $4.99, but my Internet connection is slow and I don't want to support the developers because a disk version requires a disk check.
I'm about to order Daikatana though.

You... wait... you...
Ok, you're about to pay double the prize just so you can stick it to the developers because they put a disc-check in it? The very same developers who made this game which you deem so good that it's worth paying double the asking prize for? And you refuse to buy the digital version which doesn't have the disc-check becuase it would give money to the devlopers who put a disc-check in the version that you are buying?
Do you even...
I...
Ok, lost_soul is someone's joke-account right? This is not an actual person, is it? It can't be.

That is pretty extreme. You realize copy protection isn`t probably the idea of some poor soul tweaking the music down in the codeshop?

Don't do it, dexter! For the love of god, think of the children, you maniac!

The reason is, in 8 years when I have an octo-core computer the size of a Game Boy with 2 TB of flash memory, I won't be able to run the game on it because it won't have a CD drive. The devs won't patch the disk check out of a five+ year old game, so I'm going to vote with my wallet.

And yet your used copy will still have a disc check, despite the fact that the Steam version won't, and will still work in 8 years so long as Steam doesn't die (which is highly unlikely).

Okay, lost_soul has achieved overload levels of cartoonish tinfoil hat.

I still haven't touched my boxed copy of Dreamfall: TLJ because it's a UK/Euro release with STARFORCE DRM. I really should rebuy it from Steam, because that version would have trivial DRM by comparison. Thanks for the hint Lost_soul. :p

Plus we already know that Valve have in place Apocalypse scenario contingencies for Steam.

I am sorry, for I did not know. I stand advised.
(I`d say clever troll though, but then, you never know these days)
