We're talking about the company that has been using OpenGL since the late 90s. Hopefully they're smart enough to not tie their games to one vendor's product like they always were with the Quake games. If Quakes had been D3d, do you think they would run on the Mac? What about cell phones?
I suppose if it uses Steam, I'll just wait until the price drops very low since at that point I'm not really buying anything anyway.

And if that's not an argument to make games with OpenGL support I don't know WHAT is.

DRM solutions are usually the publisher's decision, not the developer's, you fuckwit. In the current case if Bethesda Softworks makes a decree, they'll ultimately have to obey.

The past is irrelevant to this discussion. Modern multi-platform game engines are typically built with native support for multiple renderers - eg OpenGL, D3D, Xbox's 360 modified D3D API, etc.

Games with low price points on the Steam store can make crazy money through sheer volume of sales. There's a good number of indie developers who've stayed afloat solely due to heavily discounted Steam sales at times. Eg Carpe Fulgur and Penumbra guys (Frictional, I believe).
Also a publisher has already made their money on any boxed retail copy long before you, the end consumer, have picked it up. When it comes to one-time activation titles that are tied to a single account, all your efforts at "protest" are futile in the end. You're pretty think.

I really, really want to try out (
http://panzer-corps.com/) Panzer Corps.
But:
- I ain't got the $40 to spend on it.
- I'm spoiled by cheap and awesome PC games already.
- There's no demo.
BUT:
- It looks cool.
- They talked about it on the GWJ podcast, which made me want it more.
- It has no DRM.
- It looks nice (I like moving stuff around on maps).
- It looks like it would scale down to my netbook.

Wow, that really blows. Hope you get peptic ulcers from the anxiety of inability to decide after you've rejected the most obvious and simple solution.

I'm thinking about buying a used copy of Hexen 1. I had it long ago, but lost the CD. I miss some of the music most of all.

I found a used copy of Duke Forever at this local game shop for $30. Should I get it? I'm really glad these guys are still around. It is just a small place, not even the size of a video store and it is within walking distance of here. I was afraid the game crazy that opened up in town would run them out of business about eight years ago, but sure enough that GC is gone and these guys are still here! I should have gotten it while I was just there.
Double post, sorry about that.

If you haven't noticed yet, Pig, flying burning skull man doesn't like DRM.
