Steamworks isn't just OLOLDRM, LS. It's basically an API that allows you to connect your game to the Steam store, it's achievement system, chat system, universal multiplayer client, and all other kinds of stuff. Since a whole shitton of people use Steam these days, it only makes sense for Id to go along and add it in.
They don't necessarily have to use it's DRM features whatsoever.

No, I think not. What ever happened to selling me a game without trying to force some third-party service on me? This "Steamworks" is taking over the entire genre of games I love like some form of cancer. If you (as a player) want to use Steam, that IS FINE. Those of us who don't want to use Steam or give out a bunch of personal information to enjoy using a shiny disk we paid for shouldn't have to.
The only choice I have is to avoid supporting the creators, which is what I will do. I'm glad I went for this 360.

It's like when my favourite TV shows were sold in DVD box sets, and they were copy-protected so I had to wait through 30 seconds of unskippable inane FBI warnings, so I spat in their publisher's eye and decided never to watch a DVD ever again.
It's reruns for me FOREVER baby \m/

It's like something something something the equivalent of digital rape something something something freedom of choice something something something I will never love again.
There's such a thing as hyperbole, LS. You're not giving out any personal info when you sign up to Steam. Other than your email address anyway, but you could always make up a fake account like GabeNewellIsVideogameHitler@gmail.com for that. Everything else? Well, you know Id will probably release Tech4 to open source in 6 to 8 years, and support their games like they always have. In the meantime, they must've thought it was a good idea to use a platform that distributes their patches for them, offers voice chat, and all other kinds of neat stuff FOR FREE!
It's like bitching about having to install Direct X. I didn't have a single damn choice about it. Maybe I don't want Direct X! It's stupid that publishers are FORCING me to use it!
I mean comeon, man. COMEON!
