I draw the line when we start pulling in unnecessary programs to accomplish a task. For example, when I install a video driver and it makes me install .NET. No SP game should ever need internet access to function and no display driver should need a 100 meg package with security fixes that seem to be released every few days.

When the only software on your system that requires .NET is the video drivers and you are as a result prompted to constantly install security updates for it with Windows Update, it does slightly get on the nerves.

As someone who actually understand the basic concept of software, I have a little homework exercise for you. Please do not reply any further in this thread until you have completed it
1) Open your ATI Catalyst control panel / NVidia graphics panel and observe all the menus, controls and subwindows
2) Go code a replica of the exact same layout using oldschool Win32
3) Go code a replica of the exact same layout using .NET
4) Tell us which of the two is way simpler, faster and more stable

And yet NVidia drivers do not require the .NET, and ATI drivers do
I think to myself - what a wonderful world

.NET is a packaged component of Windows 7, so if you're with the current decade, you already have it anyway, you phenomenal tossers.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will now force Steamworks for the single player experience.

When it is forced, it makes it unappealing. Give me the choice.

If any of us was in the current decade we would never have these kinds of conversations

Microsoft is in our BRAINS, man! They know our every move. What we eat. What we drink. Who we talk to. Even what we dream!
But I tricked em. I got a copy of Arch Linux off the No Bullshit Realm Compuserv BBS. Unfortunately, this means I can't connect to the internet, because all browsers see what OS you're using, and report it to Microsoft. Once they see that an INDIVIDUAL is using a nonmainstream OS, I'll most assuredly end up on one of their many hit-death-kill lists.
The internet is meant to be free, man! I should be allowed to use what OS I want, what browser I want, and look at my copies of the Anarchist Cookbook without fear of being "disappeared". Unfortunately, we don't live in this free world. We live in a world of chains, with a carrot dangled in front of our faces. That carrot...is freedom, my friends. Freedom of choice. Of open source software. And all the lolicon pipebomb porn you can fuckin handle.
Wait....I'M ON THE INTERNET NOW! Oh, I'm in deep shit.
