Desura is reasonable. Needs a lot of work. Looks kind of slick and professional, but it isn't. The underlying interface is a disorganised mess based on poorly-coded html, with lots of weird subcategories. Search sucks. In fact their database queries suck in general. They also evangelise funding startup game ideas and stick it in your face.
Other than that it is okay for just installing mods. There's bs you have to go through to get there though. Basically what Eva said. Installing mods is easy enough without Desura.
Desura is probably good for retards and moddb droogs

Haha, very amusing. I like how the screen keeps being drenched in green and red light. Anywho, all recent previews have stated that the game is not linear.

Hrm, from what I can see Desura's client is required in order to install Bipolar. Eh, I think I'll leave it for now.

I got myself a 32 GB ssd for a bargain. It has a max read speed of 270 MBps and a max write speed of 230 MBps. I tried loading The Dark Mod on it and it really didn't shorten load times much at all... kind of disappointing.
...but Linux runs very fast on the thing. It goes through applying a round of updates in a snap and programs launch much quicker. I set it up so that all user data is stored on a real HDD because of space constraints.
