I finally bought the Exile trilogy from Spiderweb Software. But no! It doesn't work on 64-bit OS! But yes! That's why I bought Win 7 Pro with XP Mode built in!
Why didn't you get the remakes, aka the first Avernum trilogy? Better yet, wait for the 2nd remake which Vogel is currently developing.
Seems Spiderweb is having a 10% off sale for the whole of October on their desktop games.

Exile's supposedly much more involved in terms of tactics and old-school combat management. It has six party members instead of four, and much more spells, for example. I haven't played it, and I'm not that much of a fan of grappling with bad interfaces.
Avernum's more streamlined - some say it's worse, most say it's better. I think I've mentioned how much I love Avernum 1-3?
I'm not a fan of Vogel's new engine (ugly 3d Poser models, talent trees, skills on cooldown, no good way to move via keaboard etc.), so I'm not looking forward to the remakes-remakes all that much.

@ Eva: yeah, basically what Pemptus said regarding the added complexity of the original versions. Plus, Exile III was the first Spiderweb game I played and I've always intended to buy the full version, so the combination of those factors made me decide to buy the originals rather than the remakes.
Edit: oh, and XP Mode = winning.

What does it offer which other VM solutions like VMware don't? I'd genuinely like to know, since I only have W7 Home Premium (not that I'm complaining, since I got gifted the license).

Mostly the fact that it costs me nothing, to be honest!

@ Matthew...is our deal still going down? Let me know.
Anyway, for 360 I bought FarCry 2, FEAR 1 and 3, and @ dethtoll's recommendation: Shellshock 2: Blood Trails. He says it is ace and @ $11 I am willing to give it a shot.
I have FC2 on Steam, I just wanted it on console. Can't wait to try FEAR 3! I loved FEAR to the point (man, lol) of having an unhealthy obsession with it. FEAR 2 was aces as well.
Edit: after some research, I see dethy had some crashing issues on PC ver. and a bullshit level pissed him off. Guess I mis-remembered (not the first time, won't be the last).

Yeah dood, I've been waiting for you to send me your new address. PM sent.

@EvaUnit02: I use Virtualbox and Vmware Player because they are cross-platform and free. They also have 3D support, but in my experience, it is pretty useless. I would seriously be willing to PAY for a virtualization solution that emulates a 2002-era video card to perfection. This would allow Windows 98 guests and older DX6/7 games to run perfectly without having to worry about driver updates breaking things, etc.
Some say it is not possible, but if people successfully wrote an emulator for the PS2, which is a completely different machine entirely, I doubt that very much.

Agreed, I totally wish there was a Win9x emulator akin to DOSbox. It will happen eventually.
On a related note, development of ReactOS seems to be chugging along smoothly.
Quote:
During his visit to the school, President Medvedev spoke with the school's students, including Marat Karatov. Marat made a short presentation of the latest build of ReactOS, including system boot up and running a few Windows-compatible applications. During conversation with the president, Marat said that the OS was ready approximately for 80% of real world usage and that roughly one million euros would be needed to complete its development within a year.
"This is an interesting project indeed" was President Medvedev's response.
After that, he added that it was necessary to assess the real status of this innovative development before making a decision about investment.
"I will see. We will think. Million or not, but we will think" President Medvedev said.

Other virtualisation solutions would be "free" as well, provided that you had an existing XP license (which most of us do). The cost of the XP license is built into the price of the Win7 SKUs with XP mode.

Not me brony, mine was a limited-use student version of XP. I got Win7 Pro for a good price as a pre-order discount, so I'm more than satisfied.
