I'm reading Boneshaker by Cherie Priest, kind of Sci Fi/Steampunk, with zombies. Can't beat that on any average day. Only about a 1/4 way through but I can still recommend it.

I'm going on a short trip soon and am looking for a decent book, fiction or non-fiction. If going with fiction, I'd prefer sci-fi or thriller.
Either way, something light, quick, and enjoyable. Any recommendations?
William Gibson - Neuromancer, followed by Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive.
Seriously.

I'm currently reading The Mote in God's Eye (re-reading some of the Alpha Centauri manual's given me a hankering for classic sci-fi). It's got great ideas, but the writing and characters leave something to be desired. It's by no means bad writing, but it reminds me why I've pretty much given up on a lot of SF and fantasy.

Yeah, I was going to suggest these but assumed he would have read them.
the_grip if you haven't, do yourself a favour and read these.
Nothing better has ever been written. (well except for anything by Ray Bradbury)

I've just started rereading 'Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee'.
It's been sat in my pile for a year but I've shied away as I couldn't face the pain.
The litany of death and broken promises.
The blood sacrifice that birthed a nation.
Manifest Destiny?
