Seriously though, for the low low price of only 10 bux, you too can pick a cool "member status". ;)
EDIT - Oh yeah, the original topic! As much as Wizardry and Ultima contributed to the dawn of popular crpg, and it was great, you should also count in the Bard's Tale and Might and Magic series in the mid-80's. It was the creativity of Bard's and the instigation tactics of Might and Magic that really sparked the future direction of the two original series. The thing with Ultima was that Richard Garriott was the guy doing the isometric view. Wizardry, Bard's Tale, and Might Magic realised the immersiveness of the 1st person view and pressed forward as such. Richard refused to budge and continued to try and make the isometric graphics more and more detailed. Yes, the SSI crpgs of the time also did the iso view, and to pretty decent effect, but it was the 1st person view that LGS knew was the better future. Whereas Wiz, Bard, and MM all had static 2d environments, it was LGS who produced the first true 3d free moving crpg environment with Ultima Underwold I. LGS connection to Origin and Ultima was beyond measure, as Richard guided them through the early stages of their go at it. In fact, if anyone stole anything from anyone, it would have been LGS stealing from Garriott. Ah, but thats much too old a story to believe. :sly:
