Well, once again, we've reached a point where everybody's misunderstanding everybody.

Ah, I like our little miniature science here. :)
It's quite simple really.
Spector held us (the real fans) off while the team delivered the Trojan Horse. It's no wonder, blah blah blah. The new kids bought it and came here looking for Thief. What they found was the legacy of the real Thief. So it's time to man up, and get your damn ass to the Cloister. :ebil:
Oh, and jtr? This *is* the TDS hate thread you know... :)
Beleg Cúthalion on 14/2/2008 at 22:31
I talked about my own thesis, so I could only misunderstand myself. Hehe...:p

Well, I could see where you took my words the way that you did. I probably could have been clearer. Oh, well. Maybe next time :) . And people in hell want ice water too :cheeky:

That I could see...

I wouldn't be wishing that Garret could swim.
Sorry, but no. I had the same reaction in Vice City and GTA3 - He can't swim? WTF? Maybe because I got used to traversing water safely in other games first - but at that point are we saying the only people that played TDS and liked it never played ANY other game before?

I wouldn't be thinking that the story or characters had been compromised, because I wouldn't know about the story or characters from the other games.
I can agree with that too - but it is one of the more important points. If you aren't going to make a thief game, why use the name except as a marketing move to dupe fans of the previous two into wasting money on something they hate (and end up asking for their money back on)

I wouldn't be thinking that Garret's movement is rather awkward.
Except that it's awkward compared to other games released at the time - at least on the PC. Console gamers might be able to live with characters and controls that are jerky, move like crap and weapon animations that you can't even see at the 15fps the game can barely make on the high end hardware that was available when it was released - but PC gamers EXPECT more.

Loading zones would probably not matter as much to me as they do.
They bother me in EVERY game because all I can think is "Why the hell can't they fit a level bigger than a postage stamp" - it was annoying in Half Life 1, it's not as bad in 2, though it's really bad in Episode 2... and it's outright annoying as HELL in Doom 3 and Prey (which is a reservation I have about DarkMod) and when you compare to other games out there - Oblivion, Gothic... and even Far Cry put TDS to SHAME. It is painfully evident what a steaming pile of CRAP the game engine is in most every aspect.
But then, I'm willing to sacrifice graphical detail for huge levels and no load screens - Seriously game designers from other companies HAVE to be looking at Oblivion, Morrowind or GTA:SA and hanging their heads in shame.
Hell, could you see thief done on the oblivion engine?

I think that the experience of the other two sours the experience of this game somewhat.
I think the experience of playing good games on the PC sours the experience of TDS a HELL of a lot more.

Thief 3 is definitely a thief game.

I'm not sure how to break it to ya, but yubetcha was talking about the previous Thief titles and as you know...
The previous Thief titles were "good games on the PC".

I am confused by this. You say no, as if to disagree with me, and then in the next sentence, it seems as if you DO agree.
And no, we are NOT saying that "...the only people that played TDS and liked it never played ANY other game before". Some people have posted that they have played the other Thief games, and liked TDS more. I don't think that I will call them liars. I will just accept that what they say is true :). Anyway, when we talk about people, we need to talk in generalities, because we are all so different from each other. Wouldn't it be a dull world if we were all alike? That's why I am not going to say "...the only people that played TDS and liked it never played ANY other game before". Besides, putting that aside, could you not see that I was talking about my OWN personal experience? I don't remember using the word 'people' in my post, when I was referring to myself. I think I used the word I.
And Chade and Goldmoon both are correct.
1. This IS a thief game.
2. I was referring ONLY to the previous Thief titles, which were/are good games.
