Have you guys ever thought about making a sequel to a game that has some serious respect amongst the fans? Could you form a team of those guys to make the sequel? Could YOU do it better?
Thief could have been continued like it was before, continuing the same story with the same engine ect. but you guys forget one thing. Real life. If you make a sequel after sequel, the older players of course will keep buying and playing it, but will it attract any more players to play it? Nope.
Ever wondered why Thief III wasn't named as Thief III, but instead had been given a name TDS? The engine is different, the game is different, the story... is new? What happened to Garret between the Metal age and Deadly Shadows? No one knows. But one thing I know for sure, people will wait for the next part.
Now they've seen how people reacted about TDS, now they know if they should continue it or not. What should they change about the new system, what they should improve. They changed things about Dark Project aswell, did you hate the developers because of that?
It's almost impossible to satisfy such a group of deticated players and a fan base. They had to change some stuff, and make it look like as their own. Of course if they had more time, more money, more developers they would've paid more attention to make the game look more alike with it's grand father.
I loved TDS, I've played it through many times. Of course there are things that I get annoyed for, but remember this: It's not Thief 1 or 2. It's Deadly Shadows. It's different, respect as it is, don't judge it as just a sequel that never gave you what the games before had given to you. Just play it, enjoy it. Forget about the bad things and concentrate on the good ones.
Burn me on the stake for this, but I think ION Interactive still gets all the respect from me, which I once gave to Looking Glass. There are bugs, there are mistakes, but can you seriously say it wasn't a game you didn't enjoy about?

I agree alot with this sentiment. I'm just glad that it was made in the first place, when everything is said and done. And props to the fact that we could mod it to make it to where we like it. It could have been so rigidly coded that we wouldn't have been able to change it around.

Well, yes! You are right. I was also quite annoyed that Lord Of The Rings 3 Was actually the same story continued that we already have seen in the previous two movies. It was pretty boring because I already knew Frodo and the other freaks from the first and second movie. They could really have done something new.

You mean like Thief 1 was not called Thief 1 but was "The Dark Project" and Thief 2 was "The Metal Age"? You mean something like that?

AAAHHHH! Now I get it. That it was called THIEF! Deadly Shadows was just a coincidence. And it was even more coincidence that the main protagonist was named Garrett. As well as there were coincidently some parties in there named Pagans or Hammerites. Man you made my day! There I was playing this Thief Not Being Thief and thought I was playing Thief. And I was really pissed off because it was not so well done because I remembered how well the first two Thiefs were done. Now that I know it was not Thief that I played I can see this in an entire different light and the game doesn't suck anymore. Now the only thing that is left open to hope that one day Thief 3 will be released.

They would have not, because their decisions didn't depend on money or time. The artistic style also didn't depend on money or time.

Well. Since it IS Thief 3 it IS a sequel. No matter how you try to talk it better than it is.

Definitely not. The only thing they have in coommon is that they are closed now.

I never said that I didn't enjoy it. But it's not something to remember either.

The lack of a DVD release in North America.

I hate to tell you this, but I think that "people" will be waiting forever; as far as an official sequel is concerned.

I acutally got a DVD version with my Motherboard, despite the fact that I already bought it a year ago when it came out.
Y'know, Sometimes I wonder when sequels came out, if the developers played the originals at all. Certainly you have the master guy that sits atop his throne and directs everything. But do the peons, the artists, the programmers, the sound peoples, did they play the game?
I remember reading about one of the members on the project leaving for "Creative differences" what went on, I wonders... Did he realize the fans would chew it up, then spit it out? O_o
I am thankful that Thief III came out at all, and even things about the minimalist project annoy me, so you can't please all the people all the time.
(Weird difficulty settings, I prefer to regulate myself on my own style.)
Thief III was a good game. It wasn't a great game, such as Thief I and II, but have you ever seen a Trilogy of games where none of the games disappointed you? When I first played Thief II, I felt rather betrayed by the feeling it gave me. Who the hell were all of these Metal-rites peoples running around? Where's all my tricksie majiks? But I got used to it, and loved it. I'll never love a game more than Thief - The dark project. No matter how good the plot is, no matter how good the graphics and sound, never. Thief was my first love, and despire the fact that I've had many loves, Though she may only be a memory, I shall always love her, and her fan missions.

Well okay, let's see. Thief III, or TDS, however you want to call it, is a seperate game from Thief 1 or 2. Clearly it doesn't continue any story plot which Thief 1 or 2 gave to us. Now think about the situation where fans have their expectations for the new and glorious version of Thief 2, and the hype around it. There's no way a game could accomplish all the criteria.
Some mistakes were made, I'm not saying there would've been none. Leaving out the cutscenes was almost something I cried for.

Well uh, did Thief 2 leave a story behind, that is supposed to be continued? Don't you think Thief really has to move on to survive? I mean, of course there are games that only the fans play, but since there is no such thing as Looking Glass anymore, is it really the worth of risk for the developing team to try to continue with the same path as the former part took, and sell the game to the fans who played the former parts? I don't think the income could give up a team big enough to make the game with new engine, new story plot and actually decent gameplay to work. So they have to give something to grab on to the new players aswell.

Well I'm not saying it as if I thought there would be a next part for the series, but of course they should leave something behind, to work with for the next part (or for the next developing team).
One thing this community does better than every other community in the world: fan missions. I really can't think of any other game that would've brought so many players together, and form up teams that would make something as great as Thief2X.
TDS is just different, you have to take a different perspective while playing it. I love the Deadly Shadows almost as much I love The Dark Project, but in a different way.

That's completely incorrect. In fact, the ending of Thief: The Dark Project is designed specifically to open up to what Thief: The Metal Age brings around. If you don't believe me, you should watch the ending cutscenes again.

I can't really decide on what I hate the most about TDS.
