I think Soulforge was actually made by Randy Smith, while Thieves' Guild was made by Sara Verrilli (who also made The Sword and Strange Bedfellows and helped on the Maw).
I like the way the Trickster dies. What I like in Thief is that it's very low-fantasy, he just has tremendous power but can get killed like anybody/anything else (granted, the fake eye has some Hammer magic in it). And I also agree that Paganism in T1 was really scary.

Day 9... it's pretty silly, but at least one can't complain about the setting being awful. The fact that you can run up to Gamall and past her, place the artifact, dance macarena and then scurry off unharmed before she's done talking and starts shooting is a bit ridiculous, though :p
Don't forget this one:

For me, the endings of TDP and TMA are equally good. While TDP get's its bonus for weirdness and style, the TMA ending requires more effort and thinking.

i also always wondered if thief 2 was the first game in the series and thief 1 came second would that make people decision any different?
also i feel the last mission in thief 2 did not feel like a last mission in my view,i would have liked to be able to do more after that mission
but in thief 1 after last mission i felt complete

Thief 1 end was the best. Mike Ryan was DromEd brilliance personified (though it's the worst of his thief 1 levels it's still good).
I've never finished Thief 3 :tsktsk:

Heheh, I also agree on that zacharias. Most of my favorite levels in T1 are by Mike Ryan (Assassins, Cragscleft).

What do you mean? Decision about the final levels, or the games in general, or something else?
Oh btw... you might want to edit the thread title to make it clear there are ending spoilers in here.

my point was if thief 2 would have been first game released then say thief 1 dark project would have been second game if people would look at thief different

I would have to go with Sabotage at Soulforge from Thief 2. You need to rely on stealth and are never really equipped to take out all the Mechanist machines. I also liked the crafting system of sorts, where you could combine items at various machines to make additional equipment (or the developer quote list, if you do the right combination) even if it was a bit redundant. The atmosphere and design of Soulforge itself was also very good, and felt like a sort of embodiment of the Mechanist Order.

Maw of Chaos is the best one, I think. First time I played I was disappointed. I did like the environmental variety but I didn't really feel like a Thief, there was really nothing for me to steal. Now though I do enjoy it for the variety and it's relatively short.
I loved Sabotage at Soulforge when I played through it the first time. I thought "This is what Maw of Chaos should have been, a huge level where I actually have to steal things!" Then I played through it again and found it extremely tedious.
I barely remember anything from Deadly Shadows. In the final level I only really remember running through the City hub areas. I don't remember being too enthusiastic about it.
