I'm certainly not a celebrity, here or anywhere else. I'm a physical anthropologist; teaching and research in paleontology, genetics and behavioral biology.
Edit: Congrats on the book, Melan!

So if an author posts their background and you don't consider them one of the "best FM authors", what then? Not factored into your statistics? Some authors may not want to post, finding it presumptuous to declare themselves "best" by doing so.

Interesting to see so many mathematical backgrounds. Personally, I'm under-educated and can barely add up, but I'm creative in words and visuals - that's where my inspiration comes from and what drives me to deal with the technical stuff that I barely understand.

I will be happy to call you King of Dromed if you'll just finish that mission you have been sitting on. :cheeky:

Same. I'd generally assume most people who dabbled in level editing were from an IT/engineering background, but somehow, I have managed, learning two different level editors despite being completely unsuited for the task. But I wanted to make missions
really bad, and well, here I am.

I don't consider myself a best author by any stretch but this thread is interesting. Anyway much like nicked I am under educated, I barely got into university to do English/American literature studies for a year before departing to Paris to work in video games. Right now I'm doing a few odd jobs so I can have time and money for my two main hobbies: acting and photography, which I'm learning.
Interesting to see so many mathematics backgrounds. Personally I'm absolutely awful with numbers and can't understand concepts that mathematicians find extremely simple. That didn't really prevent me from making levels for more than a decade though since I have a very very good grasp of 3D spaces and usually don't have to calculate dimensions. It's very natural to me somehow, and I also learn very quickly. I'm mostly self taught in most disciplines, through observation and trial and error.

Honestly, in my mind, any FM author who has released a playable mission would be among the "best." I'm sure there are countless more (like me) who dabble but have never created something they thought to be worth releasing.

Or just haven't had time to finish it. Yet.

If I had known academia provided all this free time I would've gone into that over business >.<
Always been interested in dromed, but what little free time I have has always been taken up by other hobbies.
