He appears to have something to do with the undead or the old quarter, as far as I can tell. Who was he? Some Hammerite? Or just a blacksmith? What do we know about him so far?

Well, judging from the dialect used in his quotes, he's probably a Hammerite, and, as the name implies, he has committed some sort of sin that caused for him to be cast out. Also, some of his quotes are rather anti-Hammerite, so that supports that statement. I'm afraid that's all I know/ can guess for now, unless anyone else has some nifty suggestions.

I always thought he could have been the hammerite high priest who commanded the Haunted Cathedral when it wasnt so haunted. after the debacle following the undead and the eye, he was venerated for his bravery by his brethren but felt that he had failed in his duties, imposing exile or expulsion upon himself, though his writings would be still read by many of the hammers.
Just my theory.

judging from his somewhat cynical tone, I think it unlikely that his exile was self-imposed.

T_clocktowerLoadingQuote2: "Once sin hath entered thy heart, thy life’s work is at an end. - Precepts of the Smith-in-Exile"
M7TIP2: "Those who fight undead fall into two groups - the resourceful,
and the slain. The well-prepared knight will arm himself well with
holy water. However,
a more convenient tactic, as well as one much less taxing on the purse, is
to take advantage of the zombie's antipathy for all living creatures,
and look for other convenient targets to divert a pursuer.
- excerpt from the Journals of Morgan,
declared anathema by the Smith-in-Exile."
Briefing text, The Haunted Cathedral: "Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum.
-- Collected letters of the smith-in-exile"
Briefing, Return to the Cathedral: "And he did say, 'Shall we not use this power, as our enemies used it unto us? Do we not carve their wild forests into our beams and boards? Do we not tame their raging streams to carry our boats?' And in their youth and foolishness, did his brothers say, 'Yes, let us.'

That second quote sounds like they were intending to put in a "zombie distraction" mechanic in, but never did. Hell, thatd be sweet, be chased by zombies, and run like a bat outta hell straight to some poor schmuck, then the zombie would go for the easier meal. OH HELL YEAH! :thumb:

Heh heh. You sadist!:p
Actually, it's a hint to use the burricks and spider to fight the zombies.

I know, I just think the whole thing about luring them into crowds of unsuspecting bystanders is appealing... :ebil:
