I'm not rich and have never said I am.
I never said that being a waiter was a great job.
I never said waiters are lazy.
You knee jerk dickheads are just too much. I said that I don't get why waiters engender so much sympathy over tips. And they fucking do. We've had a tipping debate before on TTLG and that should be evidence enough. That is all I said. Don't put words in my mouth you total, total asshole.
You started it by telling us how you halved your waiter's tip to 5% just for calling you mate. DaBeast started the previous debate by calling them overpaid lazy fucks who won't get a real job, because he had some bug up his ass about tipping. In both cases, the resulting sympathy was logical.
I have sympathy for wait staff when people slag them off unfairly just because they don't like the method they get paid. There's something about being expected to make a discretionary payment that grates on some people's inner cheapskate; it's like they see it as forced charity instead of payment for services rendered. I don't get that, but whatever. We can debate whether tips are a good way of paying for service. I can see both sides to that. What really makes me feel sympathy is when I'm out with friends or family and nobody complains about the service during the meal, but when the bill comes somebody stiffs the wait staff out of cheapness and then tries to rationalize it with flimsy excuses.

Having been a waiter, and had a mother who was a waitress, I do agree with heywood to an extent. But, as I said previously, average service gets an average tip. Poor or sloppy service can get as little as none, exceptional service can get a tip as large, or larger than the bill.
It's a tough job, but one that the server has to take interest in and an active role with a consideration for the job and the customer.
People who opt out with lame excuses also piss me off when I'm out with a group and, as he/she said has no complaints and then stiffs the wait person.

One of my regrets in life is not learning to weld with my father. He used to weld loads of stuff out of necessity when we were in Africa, and my brother trained as a welder at some point in the 80s so I'd have had a couple of good teachers. I just remember watching it all through what I thought was an awesome and spooky mask but I was too young and stupid to realise the true utility of it all and so never asked him to teach me :(
Models are in that top 300 list. Lol.
Where did you live in Africa? I spent a few childhood years in Kenya and Tanzania, it's just night and day compared to anywhere in the US.

According to some people, one is a lawless wasteland filled with unpredictable, unstoppable violence, thieves and murderers are everywhere and age-old racial hatreds are the norm, and the other is Africa.

Apartheid was in South Africa bro. I never went there during that time. Malawi had diplomatic relations with SA too so no ANC allowed and they had an embassy there.

Mostly singing the blues, but occasionally selling some art and painting custom wall murals. Getting too old to rob banks anymore. :ebil:
