I think it's jesus christ. And ellusion to his rebirth (the AI/JC ending)... it's the true one.

This was discussed to great length at the Ion Storm BB, especially with the allusions to Jesus Christ.
One of the developers (don't remember which one, and the archives are gone) piped in and said originally J.C. was available to play as either a male or female, and J.C. was fine for either. For time/cost reasons, they limited it to just male.

/me hopes the male/female deal makes it into DX2.
Also heard it stands for "just another codename."

Geez, why is that people always think the worst of something? It could stand for Julius Caesar, or maybe John Carmack, or whatever.

Come on, people! How could it be jesus christ?! It's hard to believe... AMHO I think that the "Just another Codename" is pretty cool :).

If you see the initials J.C. in any sort of work of western fiction (either electronic or physical) it almost always means Jesus Christ. It's kinda like a "Killroy was here" thing.
Garboshnik on 19/5/2001 at 19:02
It usually means that in western fiction because the reader is usually a Christian and wants it to mean that ;)

Given that "God from a Machine" is the name of the game, I can't believe "Jesus Christ" doesn't have something to do with it. While it is true that initials allow you to be male or female, that could apply to ANY initials. So why specifially JC?
Of course, I can make up jokes, too :)
such as "Joe/Jane Citizen" or Junior Clone
Edit: And I am not a Christian. But Jesus Christ is nontheless part of the culture.

It could also stand for Jimmy Chicken.
Think about it...
