Everyone goes on about what should be in sequels, but I've noticed that Thief fans seem to want a more streamlined experience. I'd say most of us don't want 3rd person view. Is there anything else you don't want?

Lazy developers.

- a crappy engine
- a console game
- a futuristic setting

I do not want to be forced to spend all my money on one mission.
They may remove all my tools on beginning on every mission, but heck, leave my money alone.

Bingo for me.

What I personally don't want is more action.

Yeah, the futuristic setting is a big no-no.
Also, like someone mentioned it has to keep the stealth feel... so very little to no action is preferable.

3rd person view indeed.
However i WOULD like body awareness - just done in a much less jerky manner. To be honest though I think the failings of this were a lot down to both them having to compromise over having both 3rd and 1st person (whether they used the same animations i dunno, but even so they still had to spend time developing the 3rd person). Body awareness done well would really help with the immersion and would add quite a bit to the gameplay if you ask me. Don't just dismiss it because it hasn't been implemented in the best way in most games (er i dunno if it's ever been done well?)
3rd person view though really does spoil it because not only does it change the level designers perspective, tailoring them around that view and compromising 1st person, but it also encourages a very different style of play, and does not really help people to grasp the "thief spirit of play".
That's something I think thief 2 did really well actually, with things like no kill, ko etc objectives on higher difficulties - it was like a nudge in the "this is the direction we were trying to go with the game. Where as with 3 it just seemed like butchery and killing was encouraged :S And to be honest this isn't really stealth.
A good (and i guess more believable) stance would be that if you killed someone then the ai simply do not forget about it and stay in alert mode (or at least more alert than normal on their patrols), knowing that there is danger afoot. Knocking someone out may do some of the same if they see the body but they could use slightly less bloodthirsty tactics or something.
Oh yes also, I didn't really like how guards would run out of breath. Maybe if it was with specific guards rather than all of them. (Mind you this could be the case in ds - i've still only played the demo sorry, as i still aint got through the first 2 yet :$). If everyone runs out of breath it does make it easy to get away.
One thing to add though that I just thought of is bunny hopping. It really does take away from the immersion, and in a game like thief really is quite a big cheat almost, since you can easily get far away from anything. If someone could make the engine or jumping work in a way so that you must sort of steady yourself / recoil to brace yourself as you land, instead of being able to rebound like that, I think it would do a lot of good for the game.

Climbing Gloves - bring back rope arrows.
Restricted control options - I would like to be able to change all kinds of options in the game (like you can via the ini file) but in the game itself.
I kind of disagree about 3rd person view though. Its not thief but it opens up thief to a wider audience. What I would prefer is that in play you are restricted to either first person or 3rd person and can't swap during play. Besides I think that does also give more re-playability as you can play through 1st person and then 3rd person.

One could argue that Dark Messiah worked with a strict 1st person camera, too.
Personally, I don't want that they leave out German localization again.
