If the same people that worked in looking glass recruited in eidos i believe all our problems about the game would be solved instantly.
Not exactly, if I've learned anything from the posts of those around here who happen to be in the industry, its that nine times outta ten, the publisher ends up being the ones who says what gets a go-ahead and what doesn't. Also, nine times outta ten, publishers are money-grubbing bastards who couldn't give two shits about creating actual GAMES, but instead work the same bullshit year after year, just look at EA and the Madden NFL series.

So lets hope we run in the one outta ten occasion then:sweat:

I believe I'll quote the Doctor here...
"Mind you, I quite like hope."

So, I read somewhere that Eidos Montreal wants to 'update' the Thief series because the 'medieval thing has run it's course'.
Being kind of a hard-core purist, I thought "NOOOOOOOO!!!!!" when I read that. The Ye Olden Days setting is great, and the almost steam-punk technology is practically a hallmark of the series. It would break my heart if EM turned Thief into yet another high-tech sneaker.
But that's just me.
So, my fellow taffers, what do YOU think about this whole 'modernization' business?

Eidos Montreal didn't exist back when that comment was made.

Whoops. A thousand apologies.
The point is, though, I have seen that comment floating around in several articles and it
disturbs me.

I think it disturbs a lot of us. If a Thief 4 is announced, and it ends up terrible, then there's always The Dark Mod on the horizon, which will be a Doom 3 mod aimed at giving a classic Thief experience.

A game that is only designed to work on one specification.... I was able to play TDS on a PC I built specifically to play TDS. I know this was mention before, but everything else is irrelevant if the game won't work. Tomb Raider Anniversary, Tomb Raider Legend, Elder Scrolls - Oblivion, Flight Simulator 2004, 2002 all installed and played on my Vista PC without performing any voodoo or getting workarounds from non-developers and are all pre-Vista titles and don't have problems with multi-core systems. I do understand that today's games won't run on every pc ever made, but there should be a realistic minimum specification that most people are likely to have or exceed.

I believe that the core (original) fanbase is *not* putting stock in a Thief IV, rather we *are* waiting for Dark Mod. Dark Mod will have its day, regardless of any sort of "Thief IV" effort. I think it is mostly the new fans that want another sequal?
