TDS did not have a real blackjack! :laff: No, I'm out of here, this is way too ridiculous. And my 60lbs horse bow is almost as fast as Garrett's in TDS, apparently it's a master piece. How is someone able to lead a reasonable discussion about these three games with that lot of analytical inaccuracy in every place?
PS: To make myself clearer, it's not that I'd care about this kind of arguments per se, but the mass of them form a general opinion, maybe even unconsciously, and finally lead to an ostensible conclusion that might in fact be based on a huge number of not proved superficial impressions. Oh, and I think a club with a few knobs is negligible.

A spiked billy club being called a blackjack.
Agree with that. When i first played the game it was the first bad thing i noticed (in my opinion)

Arrow 'trials' - 'nuff said. If it's not hypersonic, there shouldn't be a 'trail'.
Arrows that move faster than a 150 pound compound bow could deliver them with little or no ballistic arc. (I always loved the gentle realistic arcs of arrows in the first two)
Very reasonable. I agree. Never liked the arrow trail and it was the second thing i hated in TDS and always trying to find what was it's purpose. The arc falls in to the low realism catregory. But what can you expect from those tiny missions, they don't even have room for shooting an arrow straight:laff: (always in my opinion)

I'm mostly agreeing with deathshadow, but some things are so ridiculous to me, sorry... Is this some kind of conquest in finding out the new, funny flaws of the game?
T: DS is less perfect than T1 and T2 which is clear to everyone, but please stop finding out such a nonsenses as i.e. bad shape of blackjack(!!), visible trail of arrows(ok, it's unrealistic, but who cares if it even doesn't change the gameplay), or drawned weapons that change visibility(it is known from previous titles, was always acceptable, and moreover it's makes sense!).
And many of You are complaining because of body awareness...If there wouldn't be such a thing than You would start complaining there is no body awareness and it is unrealistic,too...C'mon, grow up...What else? Maybe wrong color of the sky? Crooked nose of the main character? Too fancy costumes? Bad-looking oil puddles?Arghhh...
Everyone can write what he want to write, but I thought it'll be more serious thread...:erg:

The complaint was that drawn weapons do NOT change visibility in TDS, like they should.

Sorry, my fault, so I give up this one;) Third Thief was certainly dumbed-down, it should stay exclusive for pc only, or at least better prepared for PC.

I didn't like the effect either, but it does have a reasonable purpose-- it's there to help you figure out how to aim. If you fire and miss, the arrow goes so fast that you can't necessarily see whether you aimed too high or too far to the right.

Tap shoes - while there should be an effect for different floor types, there is NO reason G would be dumb enough to not wear soft soled shoes stomping around like a Floridian who's never been in a home with more than one story. (stupid heel-toe walkers - thud, thud, thud, thud). Seriously, maybe we should just call him Gaston? Maybe more creaking on old-fashioned wood floors and sympathetic vibrations on metal and less impacts on hard surfaces that should make less noise?
The footstep sounds don't actually translate to what the AI hear...they're for player feedback so you know how loud you're being. It's a gameplay mechanic. I remember during T2X, they tried to turn the shoes down, and people kept asking for the volume on them to be turned back up so they could have a way to gauge their volume. What you hear, and what the AI hear are different. The steps are louder to you.

"Game design" and "focus groups". Both of them for taking good, working concepts and sacrificing them for the sake of
a) designer hubrys;
b) the erroneous belief that all games have to be and can be successful on the levels of Grand Theft Auto or WoW.
Sometimes, a solid B title with B graphics and B profits goes further.
Zillameth on 30/7/2008 at 17:01
Bad game design is better than no game design at all. Focus groups are tricky, but it's better to know one player's opinion than not to know any opinion at all. TDS might be not exactly what veterans of the series expected, but it's playable and somewhat enjoyable in its own way.
Teams that don't do game design tend to have their projects cancelled.

I see.
I do not want:
(Console release) With one exception: if they actually port the original pc product over to console! Can you imagine it?
(3rd person) Suspend disbelief; peeking around corners in Thief wasnt meant to be pretty. Body awareness should be seamless or forget it.
(Load zones) period.
(Climb gloves) And anything else that is included without proper purpose, integration into actual game, and style.
(Loot glint) (and this is the one that killed me) The loot should only be visible to those who actually *look* for it. Placing loot used to be such an elite form of design in the first two titles. Finding the loot was just so damn rewarding and fun. WTF went wrong here?
(Movement issues) I dont want the character moving around like a pregnant yak. Is that such a problem??
(Hindrance of freedom/Mission design) Plan properly so that rope arrows and swimming are available to designers, so that we never, have to suffer through such abominable levels as those in deadly. :ebil:
(City sections) Missions only please. Why not just return to what *everyone* liked.
(A game that does not drip with atmosphere both visually and aurally)
