On the topic of ragdolls not gibbing... gibbing bodies is a gameplay mechanic that I hate. It was funny in Doom. After that, it was all downhill, and generally stupid (or at the very least implemented in a stupid way).
This dislike is somewhat related to my bigger irritation with bodies that just disappear/fade away. WTF. This was a performance trade-off that there's just no need for any longer, IMO, unless we're talking Serious Sam levels of carnage (and even then there should have been an option somewhere for future PC owners to enjoy). I don't mind if the bodies are insubstantial, just so long as I can actually see where everything fell.
(Re-reading that review of Requiem reminded me of what a pleasure it had been to play a shooter that didn't remove the corpses.)
And if you absolute must get rid of the bodies, at least have some kind of excuse for it (e.g. "Giants: Citizen Kabuto")

Disappearing bodies is completely unnecessary nowdays. Look at STALKER, bodies piling up in a level doesn't hurt performance noticably unless your system is weak as hell.

The whole "editing an ini" complaint is ridiculous because a.it's not even a gameplay mechanic!, and b.ini cheats are there for the playtesters. Of course they're not there for you to use. What do you want, a section of the main menu that is "Enable cheats"? Come on.
This is bullshit, pure and simple. No, it's not a game mechanic precisely, it's an attempt to do something besides list every single instance of every single game mechanic in every single game that ever annoyed me, and then agree with everything everyone else has said, 90% of which has already been done to death in this thread. HOW ABOUT THEM ESCORT MISSIONS GUYS? WOW I REALLY HATE THAT. The cheats are there, they're as much for the players as for the testers, having to edit the .INI files in question is an unnecessary annoyance which pales in comparison to the pain in the ass this entire argument has become. It's no different than having to kludge a "save anywhere" function in Far Cry; it forces me to fuck around with stuff outside the game in order to get back needlessly-crippled functionality.
Furthermore, Zylon is an asshole and has been for as long as I've known him, and it amazes me that you'd think for one second that I'd believe your story about him wanting to "educate" me, as opposed to simply being the vicious little twat he's always been.

Contradict yourself much?

It's still not a complaint about a game mechanic.

No they're not. Cheats that are designed for players will be accessable in-game because devs recognise that not all gamers have the tech knowhow for .ini tweaking.

Whilst I agree that this is a problem with some games the only thing really relevant to this thread is your obvious dislike of the save-point mechanic.

Really, read what he says. He's just totally uncomproming, but what he says is usually correct. Don't be put off by the delivery, read the message. I guess he's just tired of internet idiots because alot of what he points out is pretty obvious.
