Pac-Man! :D
Bonus plumsies, apples, cucumbers, and carrots. Trails of coins to pick up one after another. One elemental crystal in each corner, representing the four elements. Four Haunts that chase you around.

What about the games with good environmental sound effects? Which games best meld player actions with hostile/friendly npc audio perception and AI reactions to those sounds?

So what sort of games have you taken inspiration from?
When I had time recently, I played Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell, and that sort of thing, to really understand what makes those franchises as good as they are.
:nono::nono: Bad sign.
He better should have played Penumbra, Stalker, and Call of Cthulhu along with Silent Hill instead, just to see how to properly create atmosphere and implant you are there feeling.

Nothing more than
Thief: The Dark Project
Thief Gold
Thief II: The Metal Age
I hope our suggestions will be considered, and do not try to transform Thi4f to that Assassins Creed or Splinter Cell new style (which is a lot more lucrative, of course) :laff:

This. I like a lot of other games, but none of them should be influencing Thief 4. What did DeusEx have that Thief should have? I don't want to play an RPG...:confused:

T1, T1Gold, T2, T3, Penumbra, Call of Cthulhu, Mirror's Edge/Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell. Hold on with those stones, from Wiki: "The third game features a new system, in which enemies move up to a new level of awareness for every alarm triggered. For example, after the fourth alarm is set off, enemies will fortify positions around the map and wait for the player." - it's a good idea and I'd like to see something like this in a new Thief, and an improved AI system would be nice too.

Sorry for interruption, but ME/AC/SC don't blend with the rest. SC is a stealth game, but it's bland and not atmospheric, like obstacle course, I would hate it if Thief 4 borrowed
anything of it, and ME/AC are just cheap and inwardly empty pop-stars.

Thief 4 could quite happily borrow the walk/run speed control from Splinter Cell. It's much better than Thief's. It could also stand to borrow a portion or two of the Mirrors Edge character movement.
Don't be so quick to dismiss other games, it's not all about gameplay.
Also, people posting the Thief games and FMs? Really? That's the epitome of redundancy - I really don't think we need to know that you think the Thief 4 developers should be inspired by the Thief games.
