I've had this thread in the back of my mind for a bit now and still can't think of a game world I'd want to be in. But I'll say - few times I walked around downtown LA at night (in a state of slight intoxication), I'd pop in my headphones and play the Vampire Bloodlines soundtrack. Quite... moody, and reminiscent of the game, actually. Troika nailed the atmosphere.

I did that with Deus Ex walking around Manhattan.

The near future setting of Assassin's Creed. Via VR you'd be able to relive the lives of bad arse parkour athlete, professional murderers. No risk to yourself because again, VR.

That's also pretty meta.
You could live in the near future of the AC series and play any game you liked.
You could use the Animus to relive the memories of someone who lives in our time period and uses the Skyrim creation kit to create a game based on the AC universe.

That's also so far about the closest to just playing the game yourself on your rig.

The Animus is true VR, shit beamed directly to brain and thus is utterly life like. Think Holodeck-esque interaction and feedback, rather than being some asshole just wearing goggles.
Also the "near future" setting is actually last year. AC3 at least was set in 2012.

Well I did say "the closest [compared to the others]" and not "the same as".

LA Noire. Fucking LA in the pre-freeway era? Yes, please!
Oh, or Red Dead Redemption because, yeah, it's the Wild Goddamn West.

Doesn't using the animus to relive your badass past lives require you to have actually been a badass in your past lives? Seems as a matter of probability you're more likely to end up reliving the exciting life you had as a serf farmer, or dude who got eaten by crocodile, or dude who died of dysentery.
